Hi,

What do people think of the americans view that you should never lock the doors on a softtop as the roof is the most expensive thing to replace?

Is it common over here?

Always lock it.
Leave nothing to steal and then you have no worries.
Except from vandals who would always find something to damage whatever.
If you leave it unlocked someone can easily interfer with it. Take the handbrake off for example.
Theives arent the problem over here.
Just tossers.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

You have to lock for your insurance to be valid surely?

Due to the metal supports there wouldnt much point trying to get in through the roof would there?

The vandals arent going to check the door handles before they slash the roof! The alarm might also sound if someone tampers with the roof though......

I always lock personally.

I believe my insurance requires the hood to be up.
So probably locked as well
(For sure that applies to house insurance.)
Whatever, I am more concerned about vandalism than theft

Always lock. Roof up too.

Anything less is a tacit invitation (not that it should be, but it is) and could well cause you insurance problems.

Unless it is Yellow then it is safe to leave unlocked as no one will take it.[SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH AND TIGHTLY-CLOSED EYES]

Don't our cars automatically lock themselves once the key is out and you have left the vehicle. I am sure that if u unlock the car and don't get in within a certain time it locks itself. Maybe mine is a special one :p

They only do that if you unlock it and then no door opens. They re lock.

If you unlock then open a door, it will remain unlocked until you physically re-lock it.

Otherwise the car could lock your only key into itself.

The locks don't active automatically if the engine's been running. It only works if you unlock the car and omit to relock it. Very annoying when washing the car....

Why is it silver car owners are so intelligent?

Not mine! Mine locks all the bloody time! I can unlock, open passenger door and it will lock while I have the bloody door open!

The only time ever that it doesn't auto lock is when the key is in the ignition, even if I leave the key on the seat, it locks lol.

Sounds like your door switch is broken! Does the interior light or door open warning light come on when you open the door? Had that on mine!

Always always lock, as previously said most insurance policies will be voided if the car is taken or broken into through an unlocked door.

My replacement key fob is a nightmare to lock the door with, takes 4 or 5 presses but I still always lock it.
