Hi all,
My new roadster just has 1 key to open and close each door individually. I am having issues with the alarm due to this too, ie having no transponder chip. What is my cheapest option to fix if i dont own 1 correct key. I have a key code (although supposedly only 3 digits??) Is the Toyota main dealer my only option?
Thanks

By 'no transponder' do you mean your car is immobilised?.
you could unplug the alarm sounder for now (under spare wheel in the frunk)
Alarm and immobiliser are separate , immobiliser part of the ecu, so if your car starts the immobiliser part is working.

unless you have an import , then things may be different.

Yea I have unplugged the alarm for now, still get the flashing indicator lights but that I can deal with.
Sorry the car does start, and is UK spec

fairly sure the rest of the alarm can be unplugged , but forget where it is.
could then just fit an aftermarket of you choice.

you could fix the remote fobs you have , or replace with compatible used.

personally I'd find someone selling the 6(7?) locks, alarm & ecu set with 3 keys. If there's no hurry one will turn up eventually.

I dont have any remote fobs at all. Would a used one be programmable my myself using a sequence? What kind of price would a kit like that be - dosent sound cheap
Thanks

Only way round your problem is a lock kit with master key and matching
 ecu

Thanks to both of you. Does anyone know a rough price for a lock kit, ecy and master key?
Toyota are £200 for a new key if you have a current one so that's my price to beat

Does anyone know if there is a video or some advice on an ECU swap?

I am about to pay for an ECU and 1 master '2 button key' but need to know I will be able to fit it

Have you got the locks as well

No the key will be uncut so I can get it cut to match my current key. If that makes sense? Basically the transponder will match the ECU

I found out my current key is not a valet key, its just a cut key with a transponder in - I know this as i can open the glove box with it. Hoping I can also pair this with the car because once you have a master key you can programme more keys..

Any advice? I've told the guy I'd pay him by today so I've now made payment. Hope I can fit it myself or I wouldn't have bothered

Your a bit far from me to bob over to do it for you but I'm sure there will be someone close if you get stuck

Ahh seems pretty easy, shouldn't talk too early but didn't realise it was this simple. Just need that security bit for the bottom 2 bolts attaching it to the metalwork and hopefully I'll have it done tomorrow

Why do you need to do that? If your changing the barrel all you need to do is remove coloum cowls. Remove the chip reader that goes round the ignition barrel. Put key in ignition and turn to the first click, look under the barrel and you will see a hole in the casing push a pick or 3mm drill bit up the hole and the barrel should come out of the casing to repack the barrel get the new one to the first position with the key in and push it in the casing and put all the bits back on it

Sorry I'm completely new to a job like this. This is the ECU not the ignition though right?

All sorted! Explained below

As I only had a 'slave/valet' key for the car I bought a new ECU with 1 'master' key, I then got a blank key and got the key cut to the blade of my current valet key, this started the car.
I then programmed my old valet key to work with the new ECU following this guide

GUIDE TO ADD KEY

One black master key required. NOT GRAY VALET KEY

1. Simultaneously press and release brake and accelerator pedals 1 time.

2. Insert existing master key into ignition and turn it to ON (accessory) position.

3. Within 15 seconds press and release accelerator pedal 5 times.

4. Within 20 seconds press and release the brake pedal 6 times and remove key.

5. Within 10 seconds insert new cut key into ignition.

6. Within 10 seconds press and release the accelerator pedal 1 time.

7. After 80 seconds new key is registered and security light goes off.

8. Remove new key and press and release brake pedal 1 time.

I then programmed the alarm and central locking using this guide

Extra Key and a working alarm/central locking system for £100! I was offered a ECU and Master key for £50 and could have got a key cut a lot cheaper so this can be done for even less
