I am looking to carry out a small project this year by fitting some extra gauges in to the car. I know a lot of folk have done this but am looking for some suggestions, The obvious one, well to me at least, is the Nav Pod idea as it matches in, is in eye line and simple enough to fit. I was looking at some of this work at  m https://www.facebook.com/Customgaugepods/ m  and he seems to be able to blend in fittings into existing factory fitted dash's. It may all be too expensive for me but Alan suggested he was open to ideas, so any out there?

Alan came back with one idea, he suggested replacing the middle vents with a setting for 3 gauges angled towards the driver, I just need to find a place to put the hazard switch. This sounds like it will possibly work, so worth exploring.

Don't need the middle vents?

I am doing an arduino project with a small lcd display with oil temperature and oil pressure  s:) :) s:) . If you are in to that stuff I can share the code

Son and I were playing with arduino code to control a water injection system that takes both IAT & Boost into consideration

Gon, thank you for the offer but you are talking to a Luddite, so I am afraid that its wasted on me, as I dont have a clue how I could use the information you kindly offered.

Shnazzle, I dont use them as I tend to use use the vents for the front window to demist it and occasionally the air conditioning, but I suppose I can take the roof down, but you are right that I need to talk it through with significant others.

Unfortunately the best place in the 2 seems to be on the middle console door via a gauge pod.

There are some pillar pods you can get as well that screw onto the driver's A-pillar.
Also seen some 52mm gauges put in the glove compartment door, aimed at the driver.

There's space for one small gauge pod above the right air vent.

Then there's the "race" approach of removing the radio, ashtray, etc and replacing it with a flat wood/fibre/alu panel in which you put gauges.
Former member Meeeeerrrk did this. It's spartan but functional.

Also, in our old Leon I had a boost gauge in the right air vent. The gauge was set in a custom carbon bezel that had slits cnc'd in to allow for air to flow. You could create that for the center vents.

This was it

Shnazzel thanks again for the advice, I keep coming back to the triple gauge pod though I have yet to find one that matches the interior, I think I might be getting bit picky. I did think about the radio etc but the car is a comfortable good looking weekend toy so I I want to keep it standard looking, and like the music on drives out.
The gauge you fitted looks neat.

Thanks again, I have been thinking about this for ages so it might take a while to get it done.

Sweet! I never got started on this project. What library did you use?

just the <LiquidCrystal.h> ; everything else was coded by me  s:) :) s:)
Will test it and then maybe propose a batch if someone interested ? both sensors just fit on an oil filter sandwich plate so fairly easy installation

Sounds good! I'd be keen on seeing how you translated the serial data if possible

Serial data? There is no serial interface apart from the original.... It's just 2 sensors and an lcd display.. Calibrating the sensors was the difficult part

Oh! I thought you were going through obd2... But then that makes NO sense for the readings you're getting hahah. Ignore me

Yeah, obd2 does not have Information on oil temperature or oil pressure  s:) :) s:)
