Dean at Rutland MR2 has quite a few engines, but it's a crap-shoot what you get as he can't drive them all far enough to know what's an oil burner and what's not.  You could go for one and get lucky....or not.
I'm swapping my engine out right now (have rebuilt the original one that I took out a year ago).  The one coming out is a low mileage late 04 engine, goes through a litre of oil every 650 miles!  I'ts been reliable and has run just fine.  Just finally got peed off enough with it to get motivated.

Swapping the engines is hard work,.  The rebuilding is pure pleasure!

Yes the 'face-lift engines don't have the problem' is a myth, they've got exactly the same oil holes in the pistons.  Old  engine will be rebuilt, wrapped up and stashed.  I like having a spare ready to go.
I noticed you asked about MAG stuff.  I've used their pistons (big improvement on originals) and a couple of other bits. Jvanzyl got their timing chain kit, which seemed fine (no rough edges) but I was not impressed by the chain tensioner.  That kit does not seem to include new head bolts (which are a must).

Yeah I've looked at them too darkstar.

The issue is your I'm assumptions no just getting another mr2 engine with same fault due to pistons.

As Carolyn said her 04 plate engine has them.

I think way toward is getting engine out of car

Then s rebuild ( once engines out you may get a m cha if to do it fairly cheap as that's more of a pain then working on just engine)
