wow, was that including accessing your car? flip key sounds nice, but that's a hefty step up from <£35 for blade + fob + cutting...

Yep, think mine was about £20 all in. Tenner on eBay for the blank key (albeit without the electronic innards) and another tenner for cutting.

Different kettle of fish if you're locked out of it!

Innards are £15-£22, blade is £6-£12 and cutting £5-£10.... likely to cost £30-£40 for the whole lot... my 2007 sable only had one key when I got it, so I had to do the whole lot for the spare... but my 2006 - with double the mileage and no service history, came with all three (incl the grey valet key!)...

I'm struggling to get a spare key sorted as I only have a 'slave' key: heater LED stays on before extinguishing.

Can anybody recommend 'a guy' - close to Milton Keynes who can reset my 2ZZ ecu or make/program a spare at a reasonable price (?)

Are there any other options ?
Thanks

And to add to "other options": where to get a replacement transponder? eBay seem to have some but I can't the the internal part apart to get to the PCB.

My key is good but I can't use the central locking. Transponder is practically dead, red LED on key doesn't light up.

Just to bump a topic rather than starting a new one.

When I got my blue to replace the murdered silver it came with one key and the grey valet key. The casing is falling apart so I want to rehouse it. The casing has broken around the screw so if I buy a TOY41 blank off ebay can I actually unscrew the blade and swap them over or is it fixed in the housing so I would need the new one cut?

I still have an old key for the dearly departed silver. Is it possible to recode the transponder to the new car? Thinking if i can do that and you can unscrew the blade that I would only need one blank to get myself two functioning keys

2 things here. There's a fella on eBay apparently who can cut your key from a picture (I'm at work, so don't have it to hand)

And yes, you can re-use the transponder. Use the Mr2 Dance in the second post of this thread.

Thanks Stu. Is the blade fixed into the housing with the small screw and I could therefore swap my broken key into the key housing from the old car to give me one fully functioning key?

Good to know that the transponder from the old car can be used. I will get a blank and move that over then. I know somewhere that can cut them.

The ebay guy I assume in the guy in kent right?

@Craigjm
Similarly I had one key and a valet and the key casing broke.
I bought a flip key case from eBay and used the key blade from the OE key and filed the uncut/ blank end to suit the flip key case. Iirc the flip case key blank  was secured with a Roll Pin and that I pushed out and reshaped the end of my old key to the same as the flip key blank. Drilled a new hole and fixed it with the roll pin. Been working for many years now.
There are several general guides on the www.

I now have one fully operational non broken key by taking half of the case from a key for the old silver car and moving that across to the current blue car key which had broken around the screw. Happy with that but will want another key so using the transponder from the silver car key ill get a blank off ebay and have it cut. Need to find an independent locksmith nearby for that and then ill give the dance a go.

Had a key cut by Keymoon online, send them a picture of the blade and they can cut one for you. Transponder fits into the case but the blade is rivetted from memory so unable to swap blades with his case. Cost about £15

Pleased for you that it is fixed.
But, for any  future readers please see my #60 the "rivet" is a RollPin that can be pushed out and the old blade reshaped and drilled to suit the flip key case.
You do need a vice some tools and a little time.

Craigjm

I have just got two keys from keymoon and will transfer the transponder later from the current key and do the dance with a spare transponder to see if I can pair it to give me a second key.

What is interesting about the keymoom keys are that they do not have the small screw which appears to be the weak spot on the original keys. Instead they have a kind of clipping mechanism
