Car passed MOT with one advisory (tread on rear tyres getting low) so replaced with same TOYA Proxis T1R 205/50/r15 89v. The driving is weird steering seems very sensitive  at high speed and car wallows like having a flat rear tyre, any ideas why?

T1Rs have quite soft sidewalls and the standard Toyota Psi doesn't suit them. A lot of people, myself included, run them up to 36/38 Psi. They still give a bit on hard corners even at that though.

I've heard new tyres have a coating on them that take a bit of time to wear off and can be slippy until then. I'd give it a couple of weeks and see what it's like.

I have my Toyos 32 front 36 rear. Any less than that felt unsafe.

Check the tyre pressures.
Tyre places just seem to aim for somewhere close to 30psi...

Can't believe any coating would last more than a mile. Not sure why they would cost them anyway. UV protect would easier if they were wrapped. The only other thing could be mould release again it would wear off really quickly. Tyre manufactures wouldn't leave anything on that affects performance for the obvious legal reasons

T1R seem to stay greasy longer than most, some reckon up to 1000 miles before they get fully scrubbed in.
Ex 2GR-FE roadster. Sold it. Idiot.  Now Jaguar F-Type P450 75 Edition RWD. Officially over by the bins.

General rule of thumb is 50 miles - to run new tyres in!! I found with Toyos 26F/36R
SI VIS PACEM PARA BELLUM!!

Hi  checked tyres front 24 rear 30, changed to 32 front and 36 rear car seems better but steering  still sensitive will try a longer drive to run them in tomorrow.
Thanks for replies.

I went through exactly the same dilemma with my new Toyos, and it was the coating on the tyres, this was a year ago and at the time I had no idea this could have been it, as the coating took a few hundred miles to wear off until the tyres felt fine. They felt like you were driving on ice and I looked for other reasons as no other new tyre had felt so awful, but the good news is that they do bed in.

Thanks for that info ColinC as i have done some more miles and the car is still the same, tried some fast motorway and the car was all over the place.

Might sound stupid but are they on the right way round? T1Rs are directional.

If the geo is out, it can feel as you describe.
Had fresh stock suspenders and yokos. But did not come together until geo sorted.
Wheels in motion done mine. Highly recommended. Even if it was a 160m round trip.
Motorway down vague light front tram lining. Not a great feel.
Motorway back home limpet in a glue factory. Proper planted.

Hi yes they are the right way round, will put a few more miles on, if no improvement will have to get geo checked.

I also checked geo when I got the new tyres on, and it was fine, which was even more frustrating as they still felt awful on the road, but as I said they got better. Worth checking everything else, just in case it is not the release agent.
