Cooling off

Parked up after a relaxed (really) 15 mile run and the engine/exhaust was pinging and clicking away for a good 10-15 minutes after turning off the ignition.

Not concerned so much as curious as I've never noticed it before on this car - is there any reason why removing the precats would lead to the exhaust running hotter?
2004 Silver. Stock(ish).

I'm no expert, but if anything I would imagine the opposite would be true.

Precats get very hot, plus if they are not there anymore then there is simply less matter to get hot.

Exhaust on cars I've owned have always done this when they cool.  I imagine it's just that you haven't noticed it before.

That's what I had thought. Somehow never noticed on the mr2 before.
