I'm going to do a badge clean-up.... no more T's.

Where can you get decent quality Screaming Chickens that aren't going to look ratty in a few months?

How-to guides? Are the bodywork ones all just hair-dryer to soften the glue and then tar remover to take the residual glue off?

Steering wheel one? Is that just glued on?

Any others to consider? (roof release handle and centre caps)

This is the one i have on the front and it's spot on...fits perfectly. And yeah the front was just hairdryer etc. Don't forget there's two pegs in it though so don't expect to get the dental floss through in one direction!

Not done the back yet but will be over the weekend.

You could always drop  Rob at Likwidart - he has some really decent Chickens in stock normally - like the picture but in a few colours.   rob@likwidart.com

Yep, no pegs in the rear, just 2 holes in the front.

That likwidart rear SC does look very nice, perhaps the club shop should get a few in?

How-to guides? Are the bodywork ones all just hair-dryer to soften the glue and then tar remover to take the residual glue off?

I'd use some boiling water in a kettle instead of a hair dryer. It'll be much easier... Pour the boiling water very slowly all over the badge and use some dental floss or string to take the badge off. Then pour some more boiling water very slowly onto the glue and it'll easily peel off with just your fingers then. I've debaged loads of cars and found this to be the easiest way.

Too much heat with a hairdryer makes it harder because it causes the glue to overheat and it starts to burn/harden. Makes it a nightmare to remove the excess glue then.

Never thought of boiling water...will try that over the weekend on the back if she ever comes back from the paint shop! Although if i am lucky they will remember not to put the badges back on!

Just be careful with the boiling water as you can deform plastic bumpers with it, the bodyshop I use remove adhesive residue with a "toffee wheel" attachment.

thanks guys....

So in summary:
Front:
Remove T: water/heat and dental floss, maybe Autoglym tar remover to tidy up.
Replace with screaming chicken rectangular badge.

Rear:
Remove: "Toyota", "Roadster" and "MR2" (tbc on "MR2"). Water/heat and dental floss. Replace with screaming chicken rectangular badge.
Add: Screaming Chicken emblem.

Hubs: no removal, overlay Screaming Chicken badges?

Steering wheel: no removal, overlay Screaming Chicken badge?

Roof release: nothing to remove, mine popped out! Screaming Chicken metal insert.

New key is de-T'd already, Screaming Chicken emblem to be added :)

I dont think you can use the same SC rectangular badge on the rear because it is shaped to the curve of the bonnet plus you would have to dremel off the 2 pins?

Thats why most of us have different rear badges I suppose.

Lots of ways to remove the glue residue including white spirit & wd40 in addition to the heat method.

You will need to polish out the areas under the toyota logos before re-applying the new badges as the front one will not quite cover the old one so need to polish as much as possible first. so you dont notice the shadow in the paint.

You can also get plain flat centre caps for the wheels off ebay which I think would be a better base for stickers than the curved oem caps.

I've just quickly skimmed the above but, in case it hasn't been mentioned, the front badge comes in two OEM flavours.  Most JDM cars had a badge with a blue background but some (a limited edition?) have a black background.  Both styles are available on ebay.  Usually new or second hand blue ones can be found, I think the black ones are usually new.  I bought a black one a few weeks back it was the genuine Toyota item, in its Toyota packaging with part number etc on it.

And yes, to confirm what others have said, two pegs on the front badge and none on any of the back ones.  I did remove a Toyota logo badge from the front of my blue MR2 a while back and there was quite a colour difference in the paint that had been protected behind the badge versus the stuff that had been exposed to the elements.  So that's something to be aware of.

I'm pretty confident on that final residue: Autoglym Tar Remover works wonders!!

MR2-BEN is slightly better priced for the Front Badge  even with P+P.

Whereas you can get stick-on ones for the centre caps, if you are a tart like me ;D then they are an actual Toyota Part if difficult to come by as well as being significantly more costly.  I picked up a set off eBay from Germany.

Also picked up steering wheel centre badge off eBay via Thailand.  It looks like peeps just stick this over the Toyota one from the images I've seen, though there are instructions around for prising the OE one off. Have SC visor delete plugs as well as fitted by previous owner.

Not at all plain sailing removing my front badge.  I had already learnt from the previous owner who I made contact with (having bought the car off a dealer) that he'd had it partially re-sprayed which is why the paintwork is in reasonable nick. He even sent me some photos of it being done. However the bodyshop has somehow managed to spray around/between the badge, so although easy to remove, it has left an imprint.  As JDM badge is narrower, looked crap.    Having tried to address this myself with some wet and dry and a rattle can, result is on par with Father Ted attempting to get a small dent out of his car.  Should have just left it alone  ::) Now have to get it done properly.  Grrr!  On this basis, I won't be going anywhere near rear badges.  You should have more joy though still need to bear in mind that there might be a slight difference in colour as someone else has mentioned.

I just stuck my one over the Toyota centre.  It fitted perfectly and looks very nice IMO.  No need to try and take things apart.

(Should just clarify, I am liking the Father Ted clip above, not your front badge problems!).

I've always found Morrisons chickens good quality, especially if you go organic or corn fed.

yep... must be screaming or at very least squawking loudly....

Made some progress already all badges removed and as soon as the front Screaming Chicken "OEM" part arrived - quality seems spot on... although is is definitely heavier than the old T - so combined with the removal at the rear I'm shifting the weight balance forward!!

and yes.... cleaning up the yellowing headlights needs to be on the list soon too!!
