Sounds lovely! I thought the laptop was some sort of aero fin at first...!  :o

So the car has been on the back burner for a little while.

We've been doing the drive, which has been a mammoth task.

Our house sits on a hill and has a natural spring running through the drive and round the side of the house. So we've had lots of ground drainage put in.

It's had over 120t of bad ground removed and back filled with 75mm, 50mm and 25mm stone. The end is in sight now with tarmac in the next couple of weeks.

This has meant the two has been seriously neglected.

I was pondering what to do with the rear arches as they're in quite bad condition and have been rolled and pulled to within an inch of their life.

I'd contemplated rocket bunny arches and wider wheels.

Ended up spotting a post from Jspec, just had a new sable in fro breaking.

Some beer tokens later and two new rear quarters and a new engine lid are. Ow on their way down to me.

Plan is to put the car back to as standard as possible in terms of looks.

I hate the term OEM+, but something like that or the GT3 RS track spec vibes.

Essentially if Toyota had done a big power track spec version.

I suppose Roadster GR spec. Which is quite apt as they're my initials too.

So the drive is now done! Which meant I could pull the car out of the garage and look at some bits on it.

I'm still not 100% satisfied with the gear through and it returning to the middle with enough vigour that it may potentially cause an issue money shifting from 5th to reverse.

I played about with various springs and rubber bands to try and get it somewhere near but it would have just been a bodge, and whilst I'm generally happy to bodge most things, this is just too much of a risk.

So I've bitten the bullet and bought a new set of gear cables and ........the RZR shifter.

Can't wait for it to arrive and get it fitted.

After having to pay some import duties it's finally arrived.

Fitted in about 30 mins.

Shifting is mega crisp and positive,  very well made piece of kit.

Spent the afternoon under the car yesterday doing a bit of MOT prep.

Started to see some signs of rust in the rear 3/4's so started prodding and the screwdriver disappeared a few times.

Decided to bite the bullet and take the wings off as I've got a good set of spares.

I've not been running arch liners for a few years and had just over 3 dust pans full of muck and crap behind them.

This had caused quite a bit of rust to be in the inner body, ground it all back, rust inhibitor, zinc primer and then a coat of black stone chip.

I'll look at getting the 3/4's pit back on next weekend.

I'm going to drop running wheel spacers, as I'd had the roll the old arches quite severely and I'd like to go back to as standard looking rear 3/4 as possible and put the arch liners back in.

I've also still got a niggling oil leak from the sump, as I didn't trim down the windage tray on install of the Elise parts sump (as it's only recently been added to their install instructions) as it can cause the pan to sit slightly off the engine block by a couple of mm which is hard to tell on a dry install run.

Then I've got a small leak on the gearbox that I can't trace. I think it's coming from the trans cooler lines but again it's hard to pin down.

I gave the underside of the engine and box a good clean with brake cleaner, so next time I'll get under the car when it's running for a look.

Carried on with the sills and under body this weekend, ground back all the rust, kurust treatment, anti rust primer and underseal.

Hopes get the 3/4's on next weekend.

Think I've sussed the gearbox leak too, dodgy an-6 fitting on the gearbox cooler.

Got the new (to me) rear 3/4's on today.

Bought them from JSpec about 3 months ago and have just had them sat at work. They came really well packaged each can't in their own bike box.

Before fitting them I ground the surface rust off the insides of them, kurusted and covered in underseal to try and keep them looking good for as long as possible.

Fitting was super easy and even with faffing with the hardtop I had them done in less than an hour.

Next up was new engine lid, which was off and on in ten minutes.

Just need to swap my side scoops over and were done.

Pictures to follow after that.

May I ask how you attach your side scoops? And how valuable do you find them? I'm assuming you do find them vs looks?

Just tiger seales them, they been rock solid for a good few years.

Not sure how effective they are, as I never ran my oil cooler without them. (It's tucked in behind the drivers side scoop). Or monitored any temps to that sort of degree.

More for looks for me.

I'm currently dreading getting them off the old wings...

Interesting - I have a set unprimed that I was considering putting on... the first experiment didn't last but I noticed significantly greater drag.
Do you have an engine bay fan on the lid?

No fan on the lid of anything, big rear bumper cut.

Can't say I ever noticed any drag.

Cold start tuning .....

I've been having issues with getting my cold start dialed, I've been cheating it by having the throttle plate opened up to 2% on the tps.

Every time I wind it back to 1% or zero it just would just stall after 1st start until it was upto about 40°c coolant temp.

I've been laying around with the tune for what seems like ages trying nail it, and with it been cold start you can o lying really get a few minutes a day to get it done.

I bit the bullet last night And wound the throttle plate down to zero.
Thought to myself it's got to be mechanical related rather than the tune, as the IACV was calling for 100% duty.

So I got the T20 torx out and slightly loosened the IACV, and turned it slightly as there is some adjustment.

1st try, nothing.

Second try turned it the opposite way, fired up 1st time and held idle perfectly.

With no need to control the idle with the timing as much as before, IACV slowly dripping duty to reach desired idle.

I know it won't make THAT much difference in terms of your particular case, due to the "non-standard" nature of your tune etc but there's a defined method for setting the IACV in the green book.
60% of the time it works everytime...

AHH, I'll take a look, thanks for the heads up. A quick check this afternoon and there's still a bit of laying to do with it.

Little bit more fiddling today and the decided to take it out for a spin....

The new RZr gear shifter is absolutely sublime and transforms the car from it's previous sloppy and wondering shifting from when I swapped to the E153, it's as tight as my c series used to be now l.

Fully back in love with the car now, it's absolutely savage and I've not even got lift set up yet on the new set up.

The whole experience is so raw, the surge when the turbo is on full chat, the screamer pipe letting you know you on full boost, being able to smash through gears quickly.

Also got a blanking plate for my aerial...

Next up is some redline, heavy shock GL5 to try and make the diff a little more street-able at low speed.

Just purchased the wheels that will enable me to fit my big brake kit finally.

Team dynamic Pro 1.2's

17x7.5 in the rear and most importantly 16x7 for the fronts.

Brakes use a bespoke caliper adapter to run the Brembos from the Alfa GTV paired with a 305mm Punto Abarth disc.

Cheeky evening session on the car tonight.

Dropped the Elise parts sump off to take it for welding and swapped on a new 1zz pan that I'd pre welded an oil return fitting on.

Fresh filter on and letting it set over night.

Annoying thing is,I need to redo my oil return line as it doesn't quite line up perfectly.
