Does the front bumper have polystyrene crash pad?

I had to remove my front bumper today and it occurred to me that there was nothing between the front bumper plastic and the steel crash bar.

Having recently pulled apart a Celica there was a great big piece of polystyrene between the bumper and crash bar.

Should I have one?

Certainly not anything like that on my 2 and have never read any reference to such an item so your not missing anything.

Well that's reassuring I guess. Its good that the previous owner didn't just ditch it. I wonder why the Celica has one and not the MR2  :-\? It would seem to me that these are a good idea.

If this had been fitted it would just be something else for @Petrus to discard to add lightness ;)
I have had a few new ( Company) cars, a new model had two rear hazard lights. The same model 2 or three years later only had one. I enquired as to why and it was explained that a light bulb etc costs £x to supply and fit and that means £million x 's saving for the manufacturer for every million cars!

Mine doesnt have it either but my Celica does.

I believe polystyrene is sometimes used to absorb impact and make softer crumple zones for people that may get hit/struck or something. Guessing its not needed with the engine being in the back and all. Also I remember reading the way the chassis was designed for a MR2 roadster was very strong and rigid which means it didnt need as much strengthening/support so it could keep the weight down. I guess thats why.
