Why is a slaloming traffic cones on a parking lot called autocross in the US???

In mý perception anything with ´cross´ in it involves someting unpaved.
Over here in Spain autocross is a pseudonym for rallycross.

How is that UK side?

Call the midlife!

Autosolo- hard surface, driving around a coned circuit against the clock but all in the forward direction.
Autotest- as above but forward and reverse.
Autocross- more of an off road race in a field with up to four cars competing against each other at a time.
Rallycross- combined surface with man made jumps etc and more modified cars.

Unpaved as in on grassland or the remains of grassland after cars have been racing around it. Some are single track, semi rough country lanes. There's a couple of lads on here do them in their 2s, they'd know much more than I do about it.
