What tyres for 7x15 rims?

Got a set of nice shiny - yet light - OZ ultralaggera wheels, however, to my surprise it appears that no one makes tyres anymore in 225/45/15 size anymore... looking for a good street/track combo like the Nankang NS-2R or similar but after days of googling around I found absolutely no tyre in this size.
Any suggestions on tyres or different sizes for a 2zz MR2 that suits the occasional track sessions?

Curious what others use or which route they went...

Thank you.

Go for 195 215 or 185 205.

225 is pretty wide for a roadster.
Are you looking for a square setup?
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

225 not needed

Save some £s and some lbs

Tamasbako

Just go with 185/205 or 205 square and that's it ?

Also, 215/195  and 215/185.

15x7 all around, so 215 is even more rare than 225 in this size... I just can't find anything... might go with stock sizes (185/205) and see how it works out...plenty of good choices in 205 I'd be happy with.

What @1979scotte said. Post No. 1.
That's what he's running. Stock. 6.5" front rather than 7" though.

On track you may ultimately be faster on 225 on all corners but will you be having more fun?

Doubt it.

Thanks everyone.
My concern is the almost zero availability of tyres in 215/225 width for 15" rims. Basically the only tyre available is the r888 for these sizes now (2020).

A lot of choices in 205 though...

I use 15x7 all round, and went for 195/50/R15 front and 205/50/R15 rear. AD08R.

My AD08Rs are 195/55 up front, 205/50 rear on 15X7 Enkeis.

Indeed... :) Well, thanks once again, at least it's cheaper and lighter than the non-existent sizes. :)

They are no longer available though, right? Unless you're taking old stock. Heard reports that their more environmentally friendly replacements are not up to scratch  :(

I was thinking Nankang NS-2R (for daily and few track days / year) or AR-1 (not sure how well they work on street though). Read good things about both.

1979scotte

R888 or Federal 595?

Assuming that you won't be driving it in all weather.

As @househead has said the AD08RS aren't as good as the old version.
On track at least.

Apparently none of these tyres exist in 185/55/15 anymore... :/ finally accepted to go with OEM sizes, picked 595 for rears but there are zero semi-slicks for fronts... frustrating :)

So far only I've found in both 185/55/15 and 205/50/15 are the AD08RS and that's it... at least in Hungary. Limited options. :)

Ardent

Hungary.
Never realised.

Do any options open if buying elsewhere and shipping.

Ardent

On the ad08r vs ad08rs debate.
I too have read and understand the latter are not as good as the former. But by how much?

I have no proof or experience. But I would wager, even the inferior tyres. Will probably still out grip their next nearest competitor?

So much hassle to ship them from Germany or UK.... ended up with 595s with 195/50 and 205/50 and I'll see from there. But fingers crossed they should work just fine.

Once again, thank you everyone for the input!

Hi Scott,

Is that from personal experience? In other words you have used both versions on the track and found the new tyre not as good. Would be really interested in your findings.

I only know of 1 person who has the new "S" version and he says he can notice no difference (Road use only).

Tommyzoom99 tracks his car and reads reviews talks to people.
The consensus among the track say guys is they're not as good for track use.
The negativity surrounding them is that they have decided to change to a Dunlop track tyre.
He hasn't tried them himself but his instinct was that they would still be a good tyre for the road.

I respect his opinion and that of the other Tom he shares the car with. They design brake systems or something like that so have a much better automotive understanding than myself.

I'm thinking FEDERAL or Nankang for my next set of tyres.

What does @tommyzoom99 think

bit late to the party but i would run 205 50 15 if it was me, that is what i run on my track car at the moment and from my experience there plenty of grip, depending on tyre compound.

As for the ADO8R vs AD08RS i have never run the RS versions personally but i have friends who i track day with who have, and the later version do offer less ultimate grip, but if its mainly a road car with the odd trackday they would still be a great tyre for both. i doubt you could tell any difference on the road between them as it would be almost impossible to get enough heat in them on the road for them to start working properly where the difference then becomes apparent

For me i currently run ADO8R but when these run out i'll be going to dunlop dz03g or Advan A051s this is mainly cause its a track car and doesnt see wet roads much.

cheers tommy

I use 195/205 with AD08R, it's ok for the street, but on tracks, it's not enough.
My future size will be 205/225 for more grip. It's better on the track.
