I'm at a loss as to what size hex I need for this. I have a H8 (too small) and a H10 (ever so slightly too big). I've looked on the website for the gPan 3 and tried googling but cannot find what size hex I need to get the sump plug out... seems so simple yet I stumped. Any advice appreciated.

I'd never heard of gPan3, so Googled it...seems to be American.  It'd be pretty stupid putting an Imperial socket on a product for a Japanese engine, but look up a conversion table & check....?

AF sizes ( Across flats/ American)  at one time, were the spanner's for car  fittings and I still have many. I have been known to resize open ended spanner's to fit a particular head size and similarly with Allen keys.

Here's a particularly useless bit of advice from a tool supply company:

So there's no real clear rule except
If a Metric size doesn't fit well, it's either AF, BSW or BA.
If an AF size doesn't fit well, it's either BSW, BA or Metric.
If a BSW size doesn't fit well, it's either BA, Metric or AF.
If a BA size doesn't fit well, it's either a Metric, BSW or AF

Thanks both... this sucks. I've some torx bits I have too but exactly the same issue (too small/slightly too big).

Based on the website I think I need a 3/8" allen/hex which I believe should be 9mm. So I guess that's the next thing to try.

MrChris

9mm did it. Yet another tool added to the box.  ;D

Sure it is a 10 mm...

I thought so too but my 10mm just wouldn't go in. I think if I filed it down a smidge it might go so it's probably over 9mm but below 10mm. Luckily as the sump plug uses a rubber washer as opposed to crush washer it's very easy to undo with the 9mm.
