Hello all,

So having bought 2 rear calipers from brakes international and fitted in July 2020, I have recently been told they are shot and need replacing. Only 21,400 miles later.  >:(

That seems very poor. Obviously the hydraulic side works fine. But the handbrake self adjusting mech. No.
These were budweg calipers. I deliberately didn't go for the cheapest option at the time. Thinking I'm doing this and should only need to do it the once. Wrong.

Fensport, TCB, Mr2 ben all do them. The price works out the same, but fensport seems the easier option as just an outright buy. No returning and surcharges to mess about with. £100 a corner.

Big redd no longer do full calipers. Unless i'm looking in the wrong place.
GT-4 play nope.
Brakes international still list and list pre and post 2002 as separate items.
Has anyone found any difference?

Autodoc - not good on price and after last experience. Won't bother.
GSF and ECP either don't or more expensive than above.

Then there is ebay where I can seemingly get a pair for less than 1 corner.
Anyone have any experience here?

If they are all that bad, in the realms of consumables.
Oil filter, air filter, set of calipers. Madness.

What are peoples own findings and recommendations?

I had to replace the LHR brake calliper a couple of months ago in preparation for MOT.
I bought a rebuilt unit form the company APEC on ebay. The quality was bad, the dust seal was pinched and didn't seat correctly around the piston. It was returned for a refund.

Then I bought one from GSF, original price £215 but with all discounts applied and the core unit returned I ended up paying £130. The company was BENDIX (never heard of them before). The quality of the rebuilt unit was much better than from APEC.

Since then I had to replace a caliper on my other Toyota (Avensis) and I went for BUDWEG from AUTODOC. I was very impressed with the quality considering I only paid £40 once the core unit was returned.

I bought mine from eBay. A Mk1 owner told me they'd been using them for years on a number of cars (Mk1s are unobtanium, but can be modified to use Mk3). It seems most Mk1 owners use them too.

I've had them on the car for a year. I was wary to start with (brakes obviously being important), but they looked the same as the ones they replaced.

EDIT to add, I wasn't able to do these myself as I don't currently have anywhere suitable to work. My mechanic fitted them and he seemed happy with their quality.

On the 2, I went for 2x budwegs, from brakes international. Way more than £40 each. Double at least.
And handbrake wise not lasted 20,000 miles.

Hello Stu.

This must be a sign. @Joesson pointed me in the same direction on my sparkies thread.
5 year guarantee got be worth a pop. And a pair for less than I paid for 1.
