Latest on dashcams (2026)

Back in the UK and evidence from a month of driving here has reminded me of the need for a dashcam.
I had a very nice Kenwood dashcam in our Airtrek which I got discounted, but unfortunately I was silly enough to include that in the sale. Now it's silly money...

Any recommendations for a good quality (night and day) dashcam without glare and motion issues.
It's always surprisingly difficult to find a truly good one that  records solid clear video where you don't have to do deep investigations to get the license plate.

First one that gets my attention is the VIOFO A229 Plus (229), with the polarising filter (18.99) and hardwire kit (18.99).
It's certainly not cheap but the videos look great. If something can be had that's as good for a lot less...then I'm all ears.

Well for a starter, the footage looks great! I would say on par with the viofo.
I'll do some digging into night time footage

I can't help but the next base ones always seem to get good reviews.

The standard of driving in the U.K. is truly atrocious. I've had a few near misses recently where it would have been difficult to prove who was in the wrong and it wasn't me. It's made me consider getting some dashcams. I'm looking for one that's discrete and doesn't have a screen. Ideally one that records movements outside of the car when the car is parked.

 My car was keyed in a car park. Clear footage from cctv of the culprit along with numberplate. Police were useless and gave up.

Another occasion an old dear veered into my lane on a double lane roundabout. Absolutely obvlious why she could t take the racing line.

Then a guy turned left out of a road without looking even though there were cars parked on both sides of where he was heading and I was coming towards him down the middle of the road between the parked cars.

Whilst I understand and have lived everything you mentioned, and have had dashcams save me from blame when other people ran out of talent...you want to drive in the Netherlands for a couple years.
I've come back to the UK with a new appreciation for UK driving 
It's positively bliss 

But...back on topic, the nextbase ones when looking at example videos just never seen to stack up to the competitors such as VIOS who can put expensive chips in, without the cost of advertising etc etc.
I'll look again but the footage just seemed a bit blurry for my likings. Especially at night.

Unfortunately their  " winner" is not exactly unobtrusive!

There are also other reviews with different results including those by Which.

 Which! Does suggest that one pays one's money and takes a chance !
