In a word, no.

The elise uses the 2zz engine from the celica T sport.

Ours is the 1ZZ engine.

Although they are bothe 1.8l they use differant block and heads even the material they are made of is different (although we all wish we had the engine - 190bhp and all that)

Baz, you appear to have misread. It says VVti 1.8, but that's where the similarity ends.

Sorry baz, unless I really am blind - Toyota and Celica, yes. MR2 'fraid not.

Everyone appears to have misread - the article actually states VVTi-L 1.8  (the L standing for Lift I believe), but basically the 190 as everyone has said.

The 2 has a VVTi 1.8
The two flavours of Celica has a VVTi 1.8 and a VVTi-L 1.8

L means lift, but it's actually written VVTL-i and meaning Variable Valve Timing and Lift with intelligence.
(and obviously minus 'and Lift' for VVT-i)
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.
