My power steering (vain pump?) has just died on my 2000 W Reg MR2 just wondering whether anyone can give me any advice on how easy/hard these are to change yourself.

Symtoms : Power Steering doesnt work and warning light stays on.

Any help would be great including diagrams and availability.

Thanks

speak to Adam (Jap GT300) about parts, and you have e-mail regarding the manuals on the vane pump assy

They are easy to change over.  Make sure you have a 10mm pipe spanner though as the bolts round off very easily.

i just bought a mr2 Y REG and the power steering light came on
and the power steering went .i took it to a local dealer i have a
mate who works thier and he got it on the laptop cleared the fult.
bravo car was working fine but he said the only fault it cmae up]with was the electric motor is overheating.when i asked the part price £807
+ the vodka and tonic .Luckly i complained to toyota gb even
though my car is coming up to 5 years old i managed to  get 50%
contribution out of them and the place i bought it from as the
car supermarket didnt want to know first but now agree to the
other 50%.The only thing is i have to pay for fitting luckly
my mate at the toyota dealer said to bring it in a saturday and
a tech will do the job 4 about £50 quid all in otherwise it
would have been £170inc ................result

The only thing i am worried about now is this precat scare ,when
i spoke to my mate at the main dealer he said he has not heard
of this or known any problems instead telling me to enjoy the car.
Thats all i ever hear from him "enjoy the car" as if its  a film,
computer game or an attractive ladie.precats read all the points
confused -The car has 39k on the clock sounds great runs great
no problems except the power steering but precats --sounds scary.

That's what they all say!  s:lol:  s:lol:

Just read the first topic on this area and get rid of them. You might never had a problem with them, it doesn't happen to everyone, but why risk it? Take them off and then enjoy the car without worry...  s8) 8) s8)
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

dont worry, do a search, all the info is on here, as long as they're removed theres no worries and its not a big job to do anyway. As for the pump, its just one of those things
