Would 137000 miles on an engine considered to be to high to consider ?

If it came with some kind of provenance say if @Chilli Girl or @Ardent had been looking after it.
Otherwise I think I'd rebuild the one I had.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

BillRitson has/ had a 2 with 217k miles since he had it from new.
For the first 120k the oil and filter was changed every 5k!

So the engine if cared for can last for that mileage, but I guess the history of your engine is unknown.
Whenever I take something of my 2 I clean it up and sometimes repaint it before refitting, as Carolyn "suggests" I would at least look at the condition of the oil and at the top end to gauge what care the engine has had.

Mine's at 115k now and probably runs sweeter than a hell of a lot of 45k engines.

All down to maintenance history.
...neutiquam erro.

My car had just shy of 140,000 when I passed it on. It had done a consistent 10k a year and had the stamps to prove it in the book.

Looked OK inside (well as much as you can tell) when I changed the cam cover. Bit more varnishing (if that's the right term) visible when I removed the sump to change that, but echoing others, regular maintenance is crucial. Would rather have a high miles car that's moved in its life

Hardly we weren't talking about 2zz.

Before he current c19 related inconvenience, MOT was due in late April. But due to the 6 month grace, the MOT on Sabine is not now due till October. That does not mean the service will be equally postponed. In fact, I'm itching to get on with it now, especially as I have the proper plugs to go in.

This one seems to blow a lot of blue smoke on hard acceleration

If the car is a keeper it's a no brain decision.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Mine was on about 178k miles before it was swapped out, didn't really burn much oil - only in the higher RPMs, still ran a 14.96 1/4 mile.
