Driver's Seat Stuck

Hi,
My driver's seat won't slide back and forward like it should.  I can feel it trying to on the right hand side, but the left hand side is jammed and will not budge.

I've looked underneath with a torch to try and see anything in the rail.  I don't have a complete view of the whole rail and its mechanism, but from what I can see, there doesn't appear to be anything there.

I've tried to undo the seat to take it out and have a closer look, but I've only been able to find three bolts.  The rear right hand side bolt is not visible.  Any idea where it is?  I've undone the other three, and that has enabled me to wiggle the seat a little which has improved my view, but not given me a complete view of everything.

Is this a known fault on the MR2, and is there a known fix?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Call the midlife!

There's a plastic trim piece that covers the screw head at the end of the rail, pry it off to get to the head.
60% of the time it works everytime...

I want to follow up with what I found, as someone else may go searching for an answer on this in the future.

I took the seat out, turned it upside down, and heard something drop and click clack as it bounced around.  Could then hear something moving/sliding around inside.  Listened more closely, and realised it was coming from the plastic capping on the bottom left hand side that the seat belt buckle is near.  Unscrewed that and ..... a pound coin fell out!  This wasn't visible under the seat when in situ.

My seat was stuck most of the way back, and if this is the case, access to the fourth bolt is difficult.  I had to put a spanner on it and hit it with a hammer.  Others were all doable with socket.

Now sorted.

When I collected my car from its service, they gave me a rusty old 10mm combination spanner that had been sitting on the undertray.
I'd of preferred a pound coin.

I've got this issue.

I switched drivers seats from a breaker into a running car. Mechanism worked fine until the seat went all the way back then it won't go forward again.

I reckon a dropped bolt has jammed in the runners, but my seat is jammed as far back as it can go.

Any idea how I can get the seat out? Accessing those rear bolts is pretty much impossible now.

Ardent

Straw clutching alert.

If seat is adjusted right down on the adjustment knob. Would that allow a spanner/socket through the gap under the rear squab to access the bolt that fixes to the tunnel.

The one near the door. No idea

Tried it. I can get a finger on the bolt but I'd never get purchase to get a socket on, never mind turn a ratchet.

Both are pretty much impossible. Shape of the bracket on the handbrake side means even getting a spanner on..... There's nowhere to turn it.

Ardent

I've got one of the gearless ratchet spanner things. Very good so can do tiny movements.  But even so...

Ardent

I have left all your screws out the centre console now. But even if that was out the way. Not gaining much.

Yeah drivers door bolt is going to be impossible. My fingers extended pointing back towards my elbow to even touch the bolt. And even at that it's finger tip. I'm not getting that undone as no way I'll get the purchase to undo a bolt that's put in tight.

The handbrake side may be possible, but not easy.

Can the cushion be removed?

Ardent

Doubt it in situ.

Some big nuts n springs beneath the plastic covers. But same problem.

Ardent

Using the passenger seat as a reference.
If you removed that.

Study it see if seat could be removed from rails?

I have the old ripped drivers seat there. I am struggling to see a solution for access. I'm not even sure I can access the 4 bolts that seem to hold the cushion on.

Not sure there's even enough room to get a 1/4 ratchet with my smallest socket in, and the shape makes it all but impossible to get a spanner on.

Ardent

Probably last idea.

One of those scope cameras to try and identify what is stuck in the rail and where. With the hope of accessing and removing.

If you can't solve it from the top, a more radical solution:

The bolts screw into captive nuts welded to the underside of the floor. Take an angle grinder to that.

You'll need to weld a new one on though!
