Hi I recently brought a Mk3 which I am lurving !

However when I reverse the car and put half lock onto reverse out my drive I hear a horrible sounding clucking noise. The stability at the frount feels wierd like something has come loose in the steering rack. I have done some DIY checks like push the tyres back and forth and look underneath for anything loose but cant see anything.

Driving and steering going forward is fine just reverse ?!?!

Next question - i was thinking of putting her on a rolling road as I have upgraded the zort and filter with Power Engineering in Uxbridge.  Has anyone had a power tune or know if anything power tuning wise can be done ??

Any help appreciated

Thanks !

Welcome to the Club.

The first question of many I am sure, but since most things have been covered, suggest you spend a little time with the SEARCH button.

Having said that......

The "clucking" is probably the known effect of the tyre releasing grip on the outside edge to catch up with the inside. Tends only to happen on the inside wheel of the circle, so listen hard and try the opposite lock.

It also happens in reverse because you are going against the normal wear pattern of the tyre's block tread.

Power tunes are basically Unichip, turbo or fit a Celica engine, unless you want to tamper with the ECU...I don't think anybody has!

Cheers for the info - very quick !

Yes will use search button - new to the site and wasnt sure how it works but will spend a bit more time in future, sorry.

When I say zorst yes I mean exhaust.

Power Engineering offer a powertune. They put it on a rolling road and make sutable adjustments due to the upgraded exhaust and filter being present. Dont want to go down the route of chipping the engine, done it before and it all went wrong !

The clucking down is more a CLUNK, a very teeth gritting and 'Oooo what the hell is that' sound than just a little clunk - if that makes sence ??

you can't adjust the ecu on this car, it's sealed so I'm not sure what they think they will be able to do.

only way to take accont of your mods is to use a unichip or similar

Interested to know what they do with their "suitable adjustments". Sounds a bit of a con to me, unless they are remapping the ECU   s:shock:  s:shock:  <edit> I'll delete that now Mark has spoken </edit>

There is another CLUNK (more metallic and just one) you can get, but doesn't need to be on lock - thats the (IIRC) ABS / Calipers going into test mode

Heres a nice long post on it and there is a very good explanation by GSB at the bottom of the 3rd page if you want to jump straight to it.

Welcome to the community Jackass. We seem to have a fair few enthusiastic new owners coming in just lately. Long may it continue.
