Upgrading brake fluid

Getting the brake fluid changed to a higher spec, probably 5.1 Question is, how much fluid is needed to flush the system through and then for a complete change?

sorry i got it wrong s:oops: :oops: s:oops: just checked and you need aboul 800ml so a 1L bottle will do

Confirmed. I bought 3 x 500ml of Motul RBF from Opie, and got 1 1/2 bottles left

RBF = Racing Brake Fluid (DOT4 high-spec) right?

Yes. Its boiling point is even higher than DOT5.1, though IIRC it does somewhere refer to DOT 4. TBH haven't tried to figure out what all these DOTs actually mean.

Cool, thanks. Yeah I just had a look at the spec sheet, and it is top stuff from what I can see. Boiling points etc very high. Just added some to my order s8)

I bought 2 weeks ago some break fluid DOT 5.1 and you need less than a liter

you don't really want 5.1, it's silicomne based and unlesss your changinf regulalry like a race team does it will not last as well as DOT 4, it al;so isn't compatable with teh other fluids so needs a complete flush before using.

RBF600 is teh stuff you want

RBF600 is the stuff you want

Just to be slightly pedantic - I think it's usually DOT 5 that's silicone based, while DOT 5.1 is DOT 4 compatible (I double checked Motul's - their 5.1 is non silicone, seal safe and can be mixed with DOT 4 in the system).

However that's all a bit moot - the boiling point of RBF600 is considerably higher than the DOT 5.1 anyway s;)

Switched to 5.1 when installing the goodridge brakeline gb (and teins)
