Hi Guys,

After having a great meet, i get home and car is all fine, I have just be called out and tha car is Awful! it feels like it is slipping when trying to accelerate or a constant miss fire, i hope it will get me home,

Can anyone help me out with this issue, does anyone know what it could be?

sorry Grant not quite sure what you mean, are you saying that when you accelerate with your foot off the clutch pedal, the rpm rises sharply but the speed doesn't?

or

is it sluggish and having trouble accelerating

Its having trouble accelerating, even if i put my foot down it still finds it really hard to pick up speed, it shakes really badly, my dad seems to think it is a miss fire, spose i will have to take it to see Mr T.

Cheers

fraid i'd agree with that, if its misfireing without a CEL then theres a chance a coil pack has died, but mr.t can confirm that

how do you know that Mark?

there are 4 lines to each coil, power, earth, ecu common and a fireing line. Yes its possible that the ECU senses the coil pack firing by knock or feedback thru the common line but do you know that for certain Mark?

I'm no expert so please correct me if i'm wrong

I'm no saying the CEL will identify teh problem, but if a coil is dead you are going to get either a misfire CEl or a knock CEl

mmm Mis-fires I had this very recently and my local Mr T put it down to a faulty coil pack cost around £123 including labour, seems to have been a little more basic cos when I looked no 1 plug had its own private swimming pool and Mr T changed no 2 coil pack. Check theres no water in your plug recess's that will def give u mis-fires. I still cant figure out why water has got into the plugs!

Thanx for all you help guys, it was a Spark plug that was causing it, it was all carbed up and therefore wouldnt work, I have got them to change all 4 and all seems to be well again.

Well in my case i never sore a CEL and after reading this post yest i did have a double check and there was definately not one there. Hmmmm, does this mean my car has a fault in it which means it wont through a CEL or does this mean if a spark plug goes then it wont through a CEL, What do you think?

FWIW - When i first bought my car, one of my plugs was knackered, I had no CEL either.

no i dont think anythings wrong, i'm just not convinsed that a misfire caused by a coil or plug will trigger a CEL

Welll i only mentioned water cos i ended up with a permanent cel and my Mr t diagnosed coilpack 1 and then promptly changed no 2 leaving me with a wet plug body up to half way up the coilpack which i suspect was the problem all along. I replaced the plugs before the coilpack was changed only taking it back to dealer because i thought he knew best daaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!
