Philster has them in 17" sizes and seems happy

did a search on spyderchat and didnt see any bad reviews, just seems like not many people are using them, maybe the price puts them off?

never used them myself, however IMHO there are better tyres around if you can get them in teh sizes you want

for 17" at teh mo choice is limited and they are available and better than teh alternatives

personall I'd put

Yoko Neovas
Goodyear F1
Bridgestone S03
Toyo T1R/Fallken F451
Dunlop SP9000

in that order of performance, though the F1 and S03 are probably about equal (except i snow where teh S03 is particularly useless)

but then I've never been a Dunlop fan

I've got them on my porker, they were on when i got it. No complaints, good grip and wearing well. Not so sure in the wet but i think the 265 size is the reason, as it aquaplanes.

We've got SP9000s on both of our Audis, as standard, and I think they're great.  They have been replaced by the same on both cars.  Grip and handle well, and wear well (not many people have achieved 24k miles out of a set of tyres on an RS6!).

i have tried  falken avenis,Bridgestone GE111, BF goodrich, yokos AD07

funnily i never thought highly of Goodyear F1 tyres until i got them as  sponsored tyres for autocross events.

pretty impressed by it

i have them on my spyder.
front: 205-40
rear: 225-35

They are just great. Amazing grip on a dry road also on the wet. However, you do not wanna drive too fast on the wet with an MR2 would you?   s:wink:  s:wink:

The only little tiny small thing is that they take approx 2-3 km to warm up. But once the rubber is warm, it's only pleasure. Moreover, they live quite long. I've got them for more than 15000 km, and they are still new. Okay I don't do racetracks, but still......  s:D :D s:D

never had them on my mr2 but i used to have them (in 17") on a previous car, in the dry they were fantastic but in the wet they were pretty poor in my opinion, id go with the toyos personally, dont think there is a much better all round dry/wet/bargain!

Same as Karlus on 16' wheels with 195/45 fr and 205/45 rr.  They are pretty good dry and wet!

well it seems as if these will be the tyres for me then   s:) :) s:)

now its just a matter of working out the sizes, think i will settle for these

rear 215/40/16
front 195/40/16

anybody got any better ideas   s:?: :?: s:?:

You are out of range with 195/40/16 (don't know if this size exist!) compared with stock dimensions (3,79%).  0,48% with 195/45.

And for rear what about your make, pre or post 2003?

I had them on my Mk2 Turbo and i was very pleased with them.

As Karlus says, very good grip on both Dry and Wet.

I always swore that Dunlop tyres were made of concrete.  I had some on my [flame suit]MG Metro[/flame suit].  I had them for about 18k miles, and the car died[1] before the tyres were anywhere near worn.

[1] This might have been because the gearbox was made of cheese though  s:lol:  s:lol:

well the new alloys will be 16-7 all round, so i what this option for a nice balance and a low profile, the tyre does exsist, its on dunlops site, both of them are?

why wouldnt you consider this set up?

If you exceed 3%, you fool your tachometer!  Don't know in UK but it's illegal in Belgium.

Dont know myself, never seen it mentioned before?!

anyways i may have changed my mind and run these tyre options

205/45/16 front
225/40/16 rear

what do you think?

plenty of guys in the US running those sizes without problems

just thought!

is there a chance of rubbing, ive got sportivo shocks with tein springs and the offset will be +42

  s:?: :?: s:?:

markiii

#19
it's possible however

I ran fro a while with 205 front 215 rear on 17" x7" witha 42mm offset with no issues at all.

I'd be reasonably confident you won't have an issue with rubbing

so do you think to be on the safe side i should run the 215/40/16 on the rear! save the hassle!

markiii

#21
well I'm running 225/45/16 out back at present and that doesn't rub with teh sportivo

so I reckon your 205 front 225 rear combo will be fine, theres quite a lot of room to play with at the back after all

but whats youre offset?

the only thing is aswell are the tein springs the same sizes as sportivo spings? if the tein are of a larger size and with compression could it cause the rubbing?

or am i worring about nothing!

markiii

#23
offset is 45

I think your worrying unessesarily, if SP can get 245 at the back with no rubbing you should be fine

in reality your more likely to foul the wheelarch than teh shock at the rear so 42 mm offset is probably ideal

It's just my opinion but I would go 195 fr.  I run 205 fr in the past, the car was less fun to drive.
