Hiya,

I am sat at home listening to XFM on cable and decided I miss it now I don't live anywhere near London.  So, since it is available on DAB, thought I might get that put in the car.  Looked at Acoustic Solutions ICS 100 ( m http://www.dabincar.co.uk/ m ) but £100 just for an adapter seems a little stupid...might as well replace the whole head unit.  Anyway, my question is, if I replace the H/U, do I need to add one of those ugly stick on aerials?  If i go with the adapter, should I be able to ditch the stick on and just connect it to the MR2s FM/AM aerial?

Anyone else installed DAB and live around warwickshire / w.Midlands?  Whats the reception like?

Firsty, I recommend you have a look this thread which has some info on the Sony 6650 DAB radio that I fitted.

I live in Leicester, and the reception is pretty good (except I can't get Kerrang! very well   s:cry:  s:cry:  ).  I think the nearer you get to Birmingham the better the reception gets, so it might be a bit better for you.

Sound quality is marginally better than the stock head unit.  I think the weak link is the speakers (stock) and the position of the speakers.

I don't have it mega-loud but the DAB stations I listen to (BBC 6, Planet Rock   s:oops:  s:oops:  , 5 Live, Radio 1, and 1 Xtra) sound pretty good to me.

OK, thanks for the info.....I might wait and see if I can get one cheap in the January sales from somewhere.  Was it easy enough to fit (slide the old double din out and slide the new single and blanker in)?

Pretty easy.  I had to drill some new holes in the two metal plates on either side of the stereo.  Just a matter of lining up the mounting holes, marking, and drilling.  Not too tricky really.

If you follow the radio installation guide on here you shouldn't go far wrong.
