this is kinda aimed more at perry because i've been looking at his new dash, but posted here because i always find other peoples input useful.

basically my PDA sat nav has gone on the fritz, and i do get annoyed with constantly having to set it up everytime.

what i really want is an inbuilt system (before i'm flamed i have searched and found several things but not what i'm looking for)

i want to mount the screen up in a navpod, first question to perry, what is the big screen you have mounted in your navepod.

what i want is a dvd unit with the headunit mounted normal place, but the screen in the navpod, but have no clues on where to start looking or what is suitable.

2nd question is, is that your satnav screen, if not could it be, and what would i need to connect it to, to do this.

if i have a satnav setup like this could i watch movies on it.

i am aware that i might beable to use a single din unit, but satnav requires the permenant use of the disc drive. so using the second half of the din slot for a multichanger is possible, or having a multichanger somewhere else and another headunit below. if so what should i put under.

or should i be looking at a carputer, but doesn't this get expensive.

if this makes sense please can someone help.

all i want is a screen at the top, sat nav goes on it, or the occassional dvd. possibly feed freeview tv to it. possibly display cd track playing audio info etc, doesn't need to be touchscreen  as long as i can control it from the din panel.

this is my more coherent explaination, am i getting there yet.

The large screen I have in the navpod is a necvox 7" wide screen, I did however have to trim off  some of the plastic surround on the screen to allow it to fit

I was originally going to have my HKS Camp system running through this larger screen, but I've since had a change of heart and will probably run the satnav through it.

The satnav I have is an Alpine unit (DVD based) so that goes under your seat or in the cubby and doesnt effect your radio/dash position.

you can have two inputs into the screen and the just flick the switch on the screen to alternate between the two, so nav or dvd in your case

If you buy a dvd head unit then these normally have an aux video input for your free view or what ever and also a vid out which you can connect to the screen in the nav pod, so in principle you could have nav, tv, dvd on your screen

what info shows when a cd  or radio station is playing depends very much on the head unit you buy.

hope that helps?  fire away with any questions, as I or somebody will know  s;) ;) s;)

I believe the Mac mini is becoming a more and more viable option as time goes by. Don't know of anyone who's succesfully fitted one in a roadster yet but I'm keeping an eye out.

thanks perry, most useful, given me more to think about,

i can see myself researching for months on this.

working out exactly what i want etc.

have looked at the mac mini, but not sure how to pull it all together, the carputer thing sounds like an idea. but how expensive will it work out. you will still end up buying your screen, and sat nav, and now having to for out for the mini as well. isn't it about £400

so much to think about.
