Hi, I've got a bit of a flatspot at 5000 revs, I know a good independent specialist that does any work needed on my car and he reckons the flatspot is probably cos it needs a set of spark plugs. Save me waiting another month or so until the next service is due I thought I'd do it myself. Stupid question but is changing the plugs a simple case of unscrewing the old ones and screwing in the new ones?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks   s:) :) s:)

you may want to order 2 of the plastic screws that hold the plastic cover on top of the engine, i'll lay money they break as you take them off, they only cost pence

Just be careful when you tighten them , it's not too hard to kill the threads.
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

Can anyone recommed a good set of plugs?

They are difficult to source in the UK (and not that cheap), but the DENSO iridium spark plugs are very good. They are very popular in Japan.
They have a very high spark energy (benefits mainly high revving bike engines), self cleaning iridium tips and have huge change intervals (up to 100,000miles).

I am trying to get hold of a set at the moment through a couple of former colleagues at DENSO, but worth the money if you can get them.
I sense a possible group buy coming on...???

That sounds like a good price, how much does that compare with the standard Toyota ones? Would I notice any difference with these?

not much more expensive i think, as for would you notice a difference. Probably not but when i didi it i did it at the same time as 0-40 oil K&n panel filter plus was using v-power too. all together felt good!  s:) :) s:)

Sounds like a good price then. Air filter - yes that must be next for me, need something to make the engine sound nicer, not the nicest sounding engine as standard.

Are there any spare inlet pipes from Markiii? Pretty nice induction noise!

Jimmy boy ......... Any news on whether this has worked ??? Or have you not done it yet ??  Ive had all sorts of problems (misfiring etc) Ive had to replace an injector.. but I still have that flat spot just under 5000 rpm, Let us know the outcome   cheers............ Mark.

Which bit did you mean changing the plugs or about the inlet pipes?

I haven't done either to be honest. Its due for a service in about a month probably so think I'll wait til then to get the plugs done. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

Is very frustrating as it pulls well up to that point then just when you need to keep going the power goes! Makes me think that also the mpg might improve after they've been changed as presumably it will be firing better at any revs.

Now I'm confused   s:? :? s:?

On the C2 site it recommends spark plugs 1 heat range colder but on the Opie Oils site the opposite advice.

Linky.

Can someone tell me what I need for a C2 kit?? So far I have had NGK BK6RE and Denso IK16's recommended.

For a turboed 1ZZ I would use 1 range colder plugs, IK20, like in the 2ZZ-GE engine
TRD - Cusco - C-One - Tom\'s - Amuse - Top secret - Veilside - Spoon - Blitz - Invidia
JUN - Racing Gear - APR Performance - HKS - Apexi - Project Mu - Trial
