Facia adapter - Will this fit?

I'm about to replace my standard Sony unit with something better. I've found the unit I want and think I may need a facia adapter. See link below.

 Linky

The only problem is that this one is advertised to fit the 2002 to 2004 models. Mine is 2001 so my question is will this fit? I wasn't aware that there was a difference between these years.

Any help would be gratefully received.

The stereo changed end of 2002 but as far as I know the fascia fittings stayed the same.

Or a search reveals this:

Known to work and an affiliate - I'd go with MAtt If I were you.

I've just bought the Fascia adaptor & ISO wiring adaptor off Matt (from  m http://www.autoaudioaccessories.co.uk m ) both at a bargain price - £19 for the fascia and £5 for the ISO wiring adaptor (I probably could have got it for less postage if I had ordered them together - doh). This is much cheaper than I could see anywhere else. So yes buy those two from him.

The head unit changed at some point (probably 2002?) to a "fisher-price" unit that had a different surround. The one that came with the Sony head unit is a different shape and won't fit around the fascia adaptor. - You'll need to get the "fisher-price shape" surround from MrT. I think it is part number: 55423 - 17040.

I also need to get one of these surrounds from MrT becuase I've changed it over yesterday in my 2000 MR2, and it doesn't look too hot at the moment with a gap all around the single din adaptor.

Hope this helps

Why did they call it a "Midship Runabout"?!?! Surely "Mid-Engine Roadster" would have sounded better.

This topic Clicky Would suggest that the part number is actually 55423-17040-C0 and that everywhere else that it is quoted int he forums is incorrect. I'll find out when I ring my dealer soon.

Thanks Graeme, although I'm a bit confused now. It doesn't take much!   s:lol:  s:lol:

Unfortuanately the one on Matt's website is out of stock at the moment but are you saying that I need the fisher price surround even though mine is 2001 model with the Sony HU? Is the one on Matt's website the correct one?

Thanks

My adapter is the correct one but you are correct, you will need the fisher price surround to complete the factory look install.

Thanks for the reply Matt. I take it that you don't supply the fisher price surround?

Sorry about having more questions, it's getting late   s:? :? s:?

Sorry, I spoke to Toyota about supplying the fisher price surround and even thought about making a copy myself but it didn't work out.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. I'll go and take a picture of what it looks like without the fishcer-price surround in a few minutes if that'll make it clearer.

The one on Matt's website is the right one. It is designed to be the same size as the fisher-price headunits fitted in the later models. That is why you need the surround from the fisher-price stereo to fit it.

The only other option of fitting it would be the way this guy has done it. He even uses the fisher-price surround but I don't think that his looks as good because it has the wierd inserts either size of the single din units.
