right i have no idea on any of this stuff, i have tried searching but not gained any info i can actually work with.

basically i want to run a decent set of component speakes with crossovers

i plan to use the rainbow speakers.

1. will an amp make a big difference to the sound.

2. do i need one as i have not planned to put a sub in.

3. if im not putting a sub in how many channels do i need.

and if i was to go for the infinity thing in the private sales section, is that built in amp just for the sub or will it help with the component speakers

this is a completly unknown world to me!

Quote from: "rtbiscuit"1. will an amp make a big difference to the sound.

yes, especially if your useing the stock head unit

Quote from: "rtbiscuit"2. do i need one as i have not planned to put a sub in.

no you dont need one but it will improve the sound quality at higher levels, basically the amp remove the strain on the head unit which allows the speaker to work more efficiently

Quote from: "rtbiscuit"3. if I'm not putting a sub in how many channels do i need.

how many speakers do you want? 4 speakers, 4 channels or 2 speakers, 2 channels

oh yeah and miss the sony xplod rubbish and go for something like an Alpine if you do get an amp

so running 2 speakers and 2 tweeters on a cross over, does that count as 2 or 4 speakers

If you wanted to put a sub (already in a purpose-built enclosure that can easily be removed if you suddenly need the space) and an amp that fits easily inside the rear bins, plus all the associated wires and cloth-covered panels, then you and I should really speak about getting rid of some more of the bits I've got stored in my garage...

Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

either

you could run with teh crossovers as 2 speakers

or without and set teh frequencies on teh amp and class it as 4

with all the noise in a roadster the latter would likely be overkill though

i agree with Mark, the latter would be overkill and would probably deapen the overall sound. Keep it simple and go for a 2 channel setup. Just as a point though Rich, you may want to get a 4 channel amp and only use 2 channels, just in case you want to add more speakers later

this is a whole unkown quantity for me the old sound system stuff.

have dabbled with head units and the odd speaker, but never amps and subs.

i think it will be an excellent start. dan is a man of many talents and knowledge, si i know what ever he put in will be more than capable for what i want!   s:D :D s:D
