Quickest...to do what?

Start on cold mornings? MR2. Have random electrical faults? Seat. Get chicks attention? MR2. Run a 1/4 mile? Seat. Run a 1/4 mile, turn and run it in opposite way? MR2. Any road/track with curves? MR2. Dropping the top? MR2.

I'm convinced  s8) 8) s8)
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

Thinks Tem's spelled it out.  0-60 Seat.  pretty much anything else, MR2.  Oh and if you live in the UK, there's plenty of corners to make the most of an MR2.

2 entirely different cars, you might as well try to compare the MR2 to a Foden Artic...

However if driving in a straight line is all you want to compare, then the Seat may well be quicker. But only once its got its lardy arse moving and its turbo is up to speed, until that point, its going to be looking at lozenge shaped tail lights... If your stopping in a straight line is your thing, the '2 will wipe the floor with the Seat, which will be merrily ploughing it's way through a bus queue as you sit stationary about 100 yards back watching the action.

Now if the bit between the straights involving turning the steering wheel is more your thing, the Seat may well be easier than the '2 to push along at its limits due to its highly predictable (boring) understeer biased front drive set up, so even drivers of relativley little skill will be able to push on quickly, but given equal drivers the '2 will still be in front. The MR2 driver might have to work a bit harder in comparison to the Seat driver, but he'll be the one smiling at the end of the road, rather than bemoaning his cars inability to turn where you point it without severe protest from the front tyres.

One last thing that the Seat is much much faster at... Depreciation. It costs more to own, not to mention more to run in terms of fuel and servicing, and more to insure...

Those things are quite common over here...MR2 can keep up with one on twisty roads without being even close to pushing the car. You might as well talk on your mobile, keep the car on 3rd all the time and steer with one hand and those Seats can't get away from you  s8) 8) s8)

It's one of those cars whose driver thinks he's racing you, though you're just having a regular sunday cruise on your MR2  s8) 8) s8)

Definitely quicker in a straight line, as I had one glued to my back bumper going down a motorway approach road the other day.. Pretty sure he'd have gone past, had we not both been in the outside lane.

My colleage sat next to me just read this - he has a seat cupra turbo thingy.  His comments where "oh they are not keen on seat then".

It is a quick car, but as with all of these types only in a straight line.  Oh how I still give my boss hastle (he is a scooby driver) he hates the 2, and still doesnt believe I killed on in chelmsford on the bypass (lots of roundabouts) a combination of late breaking and heavy flooring had the scooby behind me. LOL

The Leon.  An Mr2 is not a car you buy because it is quicker than 'x'.

The Leon has far more grunt, an enourmous amount of torque which offset it's slight lardiness and they are pretty good on the twisties (brakes and chassis and very good).  Point to point it will be quicker.  Around a track will depend on the track; short and twisty and there will be little in it, long and sweeping and the Leon will more than likely arse it.  Straight line speed is for the Max Power boys.

Edited to add:  I've had a Seat, my brother is on his 3rd and my friend is on his 2nd.  Bloody good cars, they just drive the wrong end and none of the interesting models get brought to the UK.  Shame really as I'd love a 150PD 4x4 Leon as a tow car (only available in Europe).

My colleage next to me is stuggling to get the dealers to fix the fact that it fills with water everytime it rains!.

LOL buster!

Yep it was "that" stretch of road.  And was a blue one (do they come in any other flavour?) I got to the roundabout near broomfield hospital I turned left, he went right, he grinned at me, cheeky g*t!

Kerstie was with me at the time and not normally very girl racer, but she loved it.  The scooby was on my ass, then I just left him for dead on late breaking and acceration around the roundabout..obviosuly he soon caught up, but left again....flipping hilarious!.

Very true.  Piss poor design on the door seals.  The Ibiza doesn't suffer from it as it has drain holes.  Quite why Seat haven't got them on the Leon baffles me somewhat.

Tis the pollen filters not being sealed correctly.  Apparently its a known problem, they dont seal them! DOH!

Having driven both, the Seat feels lardy and big, but it is blinding in a straight line.  For me, it suffers from the Seat problem of not doing corners too well - the same as my old Ibiza GTi.  Compared to the '2 it feels like the front wheels are falling over in the corners, and you have to wait ages to get the power on when cornering.

I like the '2 because it is basically a go-kart.  It feels small, light and responsive to drive.  It would pick it everytime over the Leon - and there is the bonus of open top driving  s:) :) s:)  I don't much care for whether it can beat the Leon or not, as I'm far more interested in getting the driving right in the '2 (i.e. neat, quick, consistent) than being the quickest thing on 4 wheels.

To sum up:
- '2 for driving
- Leon for group outings, trips to B&Q and shifting stuff around on roof racks, but being quick about it

This months Evo magazine (page 179) has a league table of times they've recorded around the Bedford Autodrome:

Seat Leon Cupra R : 1:33.05
Toyota MR2 Roadster: 1:31.20

MR2 Wins! As close as your gonna get to a settling that sort of thing.

Radical SR3 : 1:16:45
Thats 3 secs quicker than a 911 GT3/BMW M3... in the wet... madness!

Paul.
