volume cutting on new install

I've just wired up an installation to replace the old Fisher price.
Sony GTS300 HU, Alpine MRP-F240 4 channel amp and Alpine X series components in the doors. Amp is running in bridged configuration and the front RCA output is hooked up to the amp.
As far as I can tell, the wiring is all hooked up as per manufacturers instructions.
The problem is that at low volumes it is fine, but as soon as the wick is turned up, the sound becomes intermittent as if cutting out, turn it down again and all seems fine. I started with the gain on the amp set on lowest setting, but if you turn the gain controls up, it cuts even sooner.
I haven't explored the crossovers yet, but they are huge and are not mounted in the doors, for space and setup reasons. There is over 60 different possible setups for the crossovers, but none that I can see that would cut the sound.
Any ideas folks?

Overloading of the amp would be my first guess, although I have no idea what could cause it on a reasonably simple setup.

Sorry Nige, that's no help is it?!  s:oops:  s:oops:

The amp is just sitting in the rear bin behind the passenger seat, its not hot at all.  I had the same amp in the last 2 with no problems, but that was wired to the standard sony hu and to a 4 speaker setup. That would go very loud indeed with no cutting. Not bridged though.
I will try it unbridged tomorrow and see if that makes any difference.

Not much response, I am surprised ! Thanks for the comments anyway guys. I solved the problem. The amp really didn't like working in bridged mode for some reason, so I set it up to run off just the rear channel and it is absolutely stonking. Well pleased.  s:) :) s:)

glad to hear you got it sorted, i think we're lacking in audio specialists, there are a few but not as many as turbo technicians  s:wink:  s:wink:

I had to go back to first principles with sorting this. First do what you would normally do, ie wire as a channel set. Second Google the problem and see if others had found any similar issues, and they had! Answer wire conventionally with the kit that I have. Very pleased now though.
I didn't want pavement pleasing bass, just clear solid sounds that can withstand being cranked up due to open top motoring.
All boxes now ticked.  s:D :D s:D
