Hi people...i have jus purchased a white mr-s and i am wondering what offset is good because i am getting a new set of 17" alloy wheels as i don't want the wheels to rub when I'm cornering and when i get my car lowered.
Also would these tyre sizes and the offset be fine:

17x7.5

4x100 PCD 40ET

Front - 205/50/R17 Rear - 225/50/R17

thanks   s:D :D s:D

Check out the Wheels thread.

Plenty of info and pics.

Try using a Tyre Size Calculator to work out what size tyres would be best to keep the overall circumference of the wheel about the same, so that the speedo is correct.  s:) :) s:)

<edit> 205/35R17 for the fronts and 225/35R17 would be better than the tyres you suggested.   s:) :) s:)

thanks guys but the overall important thing is the wheel offsets because i am looking for performance and handling without wheel scrubing when lowered... But anyways from the other post, which is better ET38 or ET40?

if i get to close to 45 wouldnt it scrub the arches if i had 205/35R17 at the front and 225/35R17 at the back??

nope

and from firsthand experience that isn't an issue with offset 42mm

My SP's are 205/40 ET45 and 245/35 ET50, and they don't hit the arches.

They hit something when going over potholes / speed bumps at speed - but that's more to do with lowered springs.   s:wink:  s:wink:

That's the million $ question. 15" / 15", 15" / 16", 16 / 16", 17" / 17", (or even 18" / 18", but you might need a body kit for that).

IIRC they've all been done, and everybody has their own view. IMO there is no right or wrong answers - depends what you want from your car.

True. So what you are saying is that this setup is fine with no problems when lowered and when im attacking those bends e.g

Front - 205/35R17    Rear - 225/35R17 4x100 PCD ET45

I really appreciate the information you's guys gave me but im not only looking for appearance, i want handling as well. So as some peeps say a car that looks good must perform well.

yes

if you find other wheels than teh SPs that meet those specs shout up as tehy are few and far between

SP have had to roll the arches with there wheels!

Explain the difference to me mark?!

They did what they did to mine, used the heat gun inside of the arches, so i suppose it is the lining section!

Arch rolling means flattening the lip on the metal arch panel, and optionally stretching it out, using a roller machine that bolts to the hub, like so:

If you have someone good doing it you can get away with not breaking the paint, however if you're actually stretching the arch metal out and having extreme rolling done you'll likely need the arches respraying afterward.

What you had done was a heat gun and a percussive maintenance device used to bend the plastic inner arch liner out of the way of the tyre.

I'll have you know there was no percussion device in sight. Just a mechanical pursuader   s:lol:  s:lol:   It's (theoretically) necessary on all 17" applications with OE (45) offset with 205/40 17 with TTE springs.

P.S. Our rear wheels (8x17) are et50.
