Hi, I was wondering if anyone has used one of these, and if they know whether it works with the stock pre-facelift head unit.

or if anyone has used one with another sony head unit.

I use one, without the USB, with a Sony NC-9950 - works fine - got mine for £5 on ebay - right result, how much is the one you have seen because... there is another solution - I have the head unit apator Autoleads PC7-100 which fools the head unit if you still have the stock into thinking that there is a cd player attached then you just plug in using the Red and white auto leads from the rear of the head unit into the jack plug on your IPOD/MP3 player. Both for sale if you are interested - cost me £40 for both - yours for £20. I have advertised these for sale before.

As your in Essex, I am free this weekend - you are welcome to try before you buy, pm me if you are interested.

Here you go...

hi liz, thanks for that. something else to think about.  s:wink:  s:wink:

i was hoping the usb one would work because it would mean i could just use a cheap memory stick and leave that in the car instead of my mp3 player. still hoping someone else is using it and can let me know that its fine.

No worries - I never leave my MP3 player in the car anyway - I have finally managed to get hold of a cradle for my NW-HD3 which will look neater than the current Velcro set up!

So how does the USB work - you just put your music onto a stick and you control it from the head unit?

apparently, any mass storage device, mp3 player etc.

Thats a good concept - I wonder how controllable it would be though? I suppose the normal controls for changing discs would change the albums and then the skip forwards and backwards for the tracks, would the stock head unit pick up on the display though, my old one had CD text on it and it never ever displayed the text.

i know most of the new ones do and the old stock one is supposed to.
i only opened the instructions for the stock one the other day (after having the car for 7 years) apparently for cd text to work you put the cd in a changer in then label it and the player recognises it next time you play it (well i think thats what it was saying) but i dont think it actually works like the the later proper cd text ones work.

Thats because that unit is looking for a CD player - The PC7-100 lead fools it into thinking that it has a cd player there whilst you sneakily put something else onto the end of the RCA leads as the audio input.

I don't think that you can get a RCA to USB adapter - but the situation remains that you can use the RCA to 3.5mm jack to make a MP3 player work with it on the CD2 input.

apparently liz its because the original stock sony doesn't have real cd text!

this is  still a great gadget for those with other sony players, the gadget itself converts the mp3 file into audio which you use rca leads to transfer the audio to the back of the head unit, the usb is to connect to the mp3 player/memory stick to read the file.

you can also still connect another device like a cd changer to it as well.

the pc7-100 is a good device too as you say, to trick the head unit and connect something to the back, but i was hoping this would work as its controllable. never mind.
