My power steering has failed for the second time in two months   s:roll:  s:roll:  .

The first time it reset itself in less than 5 minutes but this time it has not reset.

I've checked the fuse as suggested in similar posts and it looks fine.

Any other ideas?

Anyone know where the power steering pump is?  I'm guessing under the front storage bin

It has been booked into the dealer but the earliest date they can take a look is January 12th 2004!

The hydraulic pump is located under the plastic tray on the drivers side of the car, near the front.

When it failed before (and again this time), did it make any strange noises (like it could be running out of fluid) - it may be worth checking the fluid level.

Hi Steve

Thanks for your reply.

No strange noises: first time I was driving; haven driven about 30 miles and the PS cut out and reset itself after about 3 minutes.  Second time (today) I had driven to a shopping centre (no problems) parked up and when I returned the PS light was on and steering heavy.

I'll check the fluid but I have a feeling its going to be the pump or relay; based on Spyder chat information.

Still under warrenty for the next seven months    s:o :o s:o

AFAIK.  Because our PAS Pump is electronic it has to use a mineral based fluid.

I am told this fluid type always has a red colouration if your pump contains a different colour fluid then this could be your problem as I know it can cease the pump.

Just checked fluid which is just under/on the max mark.

All electrical connections to the pump look good to me; PS light still on

Fluid is dark orange/reddish colour

Guess I'll wait until the 12th and the let the dealer fix !

Its a good way to increase your upper body strength   s:P :P s:P

The dealer tells me that it is OK to drive with no PS; this seems to be logical - any ideas?

One or two people I've spoken to reckon that PS ruins sports cars.

it may do, but i wouldn't run too long without one, the steering shafts are of a thinner diameter and not made to run for a long time, so be aware

Make them try the Spyder...I used to think so as well.

(I'm sure they don't use PS in F1 for comfort option either)
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

I wonder if mine's about to go as well  s:? :? s:?

I've had the same thing happen three times now. After parking, the PS is ok when I reverse out of the box, but when I start going forward it's gone. But then after some 5-10 seconds it comes back again. Fluids seem ok and I don't have any extra noises either.

(no PS light either...but I have PFC, so I wonder if it even has that feature?)

Did you ever solve your problem Rigsey and how?
