Firstly id like t introduce myself to this forum, Just got my first mr2 roadster and looks the biz.

Will be using this forum regulary to gather general info and any problems i may come across

The mr2 is a 2000 roadster Jap import

My first question is the audio system in the car is still currently in Jap language, it looks like it has Tv and satnav.

Is there any way i can get this into english mode or is it a case f replacing it with my own unit.

Ive done a search but cant find anything on this

Thanks in advance for any replys

Hi Kev, welcome to the ROC.

You can put a frequency shifter in for the FM radio, although your favourite stations will be displayed under the wrong frequency.

TVs can be re-chipped in a similar way, although I haven't come across anyone who has done it on a Jap-UK car system and no idea about cost. You'll need to make sure you have a dman good aerial too  s:wink:  s:wink:

As for satnav, no clue.

Not much help huh?  s:lol:  s:lol:  For what its worth, the cost of conversion would probably cover a decent UK system.

Thanks very much for the quick reply.

Okay so basically im better off replacing it with a uk spec one or just installing my own head unit.

What uk spec ones are available and roughly what is the cost

Much appreciated

welcome kev.

basically any stereo system you choose can be put in the car.

most uk stereos are whats called single din, ie it is half the width of the hole in the dash of the car.

matt sells the adaptor, which fills the hole nicely for a stereo and a little tray to store stuff in.

you will also need an ISO adaptor lead (ebay etc) very cheap to convert the wiring to match the new unit.

loads on info on here, just do a search entering audio and adaptors and you will find the answers

the adaptor is correct, im not so sure about the face plate.

ask the seller if its a double din sized plate, which allows for a single din unit to be fitted.  the pics are never that good with these things

If you want to be sure you're buying the right bits, you could always order from our very own Matt:

Either via his website or shoot him a PM here (username is simply "Matt")

[edit] Oh and that fascia doesn't look like the right one, to me.

Yep - you've done what I did...

Pull on the wiring that's coming out of the floor.  About 6" down from the plugs you're holding you'll find another set of plugs..

Unplug there, and plug the ISO adapter in to the resulting bit of wiring sticking up from the floor.

What plugs into the back of the stock Sony unit is actually already an adapter from Toyota->Sony  s;) ;) s;)

That looks a lot like the connectors on the back of my stereo.

When I installed the Parrot bluetooth I had to get a lead from Halfrauds that was those connectors on one end and ISO connectors on the other.

Pretty sure it cost me less than 20 quid but they had to order it in - to make sure they didnt get the wrong one I took the actual stereo in and said "can I have the lead for this please"

Guess what?
They still got the wrong one first time   s:roll:  s:roll:   2nd time was spot on and everything was plug and play from then on

Good luck

OK now you have the ISO cable you need ISO to (Head Unit)
replace (head unit) with JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer Etc.
So you have got a cable to convert Toyota to standard, now you need one to go standard to Head Unit.
Simple

Hi
The picture of the radio is the jap radio that came in the car (not my new sony hu which i want to instal) when i got it, i was just showing  it so you could see the connections

The iso cable i got fits perfectly into my sony hu but the other ends will not fit the toyota wiring and if it makes any difference my car is the mr2s year 2000

Sorry if i confused you

Help would be appreciated

The correct harness does exist out there for the MR-S Kev. I'm not aware that the wiring differs between UK and import so it sounds as though you've been given the wrong one.

Unfortunately I lobbed the packaging from my autoleads harness years ago so can't help you with a part number.  s:oops:  s:oops:

yep neither the head unit nor teh car wiring are ISO standard

so unless you get lucky and get a Toyuota to you new head unit converter

what you need is 2 things

1. Car to ISO lead
2. ISO to Head unit lead

when I did this with my kenwood teh resuling mess was so big I couldn;t get it under teh carpet and ended up building my own

Sorted

Firstly went to Halfords - they wouldnt order one incase it wouldnt fit so told me to go to the Toyota Dealer

Toyota Dealer said they dont supply any leads leads other than the standard iso connector

Went home sick as a chip with no lead

Thought when i got home id have another look for the correct connector and Bingo there it was tucked round the side under the carpet.

Radio now working spot on

Thanks to everyone on here for their help on this much needed forum

Thanks
