Kicker have launched a shallow-mount 6.5" Sub on the US market that looks like it could be a nice fit for the Roadster, either in the under-dash enclosure, or at a pinch, behind the seat (one of the few advantages of being short!    s:lol:  s:lol:   ). I'm considering picking one up off EBay. Given the exchange rate, these things are a steal... I'll probably buy two, as they're being sold in pairs by quite a few people. According to Kicker's documentation they can go in an enclosure just 3" deep and 14" high/wide.

Here is an example auction.

I'm waiting on some of the vendors to get back to me with shipping costs.

For anyone interested, I've had a quote for $75 shipping. With Duty and VAT I'm reckoning on about £110 for two subs. I've got to MOT and sell my old car (or sell my hardtop   s:wink:  s:wink:  ) before I can order. I've just spoken to Kicker UK and these aren't on their launch schedule, so it looks like they won't be on sale here anytime soon.

After a crawl round behind the seats with a measuring tape I'm thinking I can get a decent amp behind the driver's seat (looking at a Kicker ZX550.3 3-channel amp) and a sub enclosure for one sub behind the passenger seat (no tall people allowed). The other sub will be put to one side for an under-dash enclosure.

Click here for the manual from Kicker's US site (which is all Flash driven, so I can't link straight to the page for the sub)

If anyone has any observations or sees any obvious flaws in my masterplan, I'd welcome the feedback! Also if there is any interest in a group buy, I'll ask for some prices.

One question for any ICE experts, the manual for the sub recommends that the enclosure be filled with poly-fil. Is there any particular stuff I should use, or should any filler from a craft shop do the job (like the stuff for filling teddy bears, not the stuff for filling cracks in the wall, I presume).

Thanks

Well, I've ordered the subs. I'm trawling EBay looking for a bargain on the amp front. I'm not really well up on the top ICE brands, at the moment I'm looking at a new Infinity 475a, or a Kicker ZX550.3 or a used JL Audio 300/4. Anyone got any recommendations?

I'm talking to a joiner I know about making me a custom enclosure to go behind the passenger seat.

With any luck, it should all be done in time for my trip up to Fort William.

Well, the hunt for a bargain on the amp front paid off. I picked up a DLS Ultimate A4 (RRP is something like £900   s:shock:  s:shock:  ) off Ebay for £130. I'm almost reluctant to believe I've got such a steal, so I'm half-expecting it not to work!

Everything is away for installation. They reckon that they can get both subs behind the passenger seat in a custom enclosure. The amp is going behind the driver's seat, hidden away under a carpeted shelf.

The car should be ready tomorrow, all ice'd up, serviced, de-catted, and with any luck, sporting stock wheels instead of the 'pimp my roadster' 17" wheels that are on it at the moment.

The only downside is the impending large hole in the bank balance. I think I'll be eating beans on toast a lot this month!
