I'm looking to install a reversing camera. I've found one for sale.
It comes with 5metre of cable to connect to headunit and 1.5 metres of power cable.

Where can I wire the power cable to?

I want the camera to be able to be viewed all the time even when I'm not reversing.

But I don't want it to drain the battery when the car is switched off.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Power direct from battery, run cable to head unit/monitor, install switch in dash to turn on and off

Or use passenger window cut off switch if not already modified for the radio aerial...

I would be inclined to look for a switched live from the ignition though - there'll be one behind the head unit - unless you want to be able to run the camera with ignition off.  That way you won't accidentally leave it on.

Where did buy a switch from and how did you wire it up?

Where have you installed the switch? was it hard?

Sorry about all the questions

Maplins for a switch or as the man  says use an existing switch in the car.
If you know wiring then its easy, if you dont then get a pro in.

No i don't know how to do wiring. Sounds like bit of a task.

Can i not wire it to something which already uses power

eg fog light, headunit

Could i wire the power cable (camera) to a plug?

I've got a power inverter which I could plug it in to?

I dont think they make any 240v reversing cameras based on 99% of cars running 12V
Take a live feed or switched feed from the battery and another to the AV source

Wire it (with spade connectors) to the rear of the fag lighter. On when the car is on, off when its off.. Problem solved, no switch needed.

But surely you dont want to see behind you 24x7, only when you are going backwards or when you feel like it?

You drive your car 24x7?  s:) :) s:)

Surely you'll have your display set to camera mode when you want to see the cam feed.. and not in cam mode when you dont want to. Or I may be missing something.
