Has something affected my stereo?

Hi

It's been a while since I last posted on here, but I've recently moved to a new house and had quite a lot to do.

I've just had my 2 in for a little bodywork repair (somebody's child swung there door open to full stretch in a car park and swiped my rear wheel arch  s:x :x s:x  )

Since I got it back, I'm suspecting that they may have disconnected something and caused my stereo to act differently???

I'm sure if it was switched on when I turned off the engine and removed the key...then it always automatically came back on when I started it again. It does this when I am away from the car for a shorter time....but when left overnight, I always have to press the on-switch to get it back on.

Even more strangely....on a couple of occassions, I've found pressing the on-switch does nothing.
In this instance, I've found that pressing the CD eject button fires up the stereo...then it works  s:? :? s:?

I'm confused.....does anyone have clue what may have happened?

Thanks

Sounds bu##ered to me.

Can't imagine anything the bodyshop have done causing it.
Looks like you need to look into replacing / upgrading it.
Cute & fluffy animals were definitely hurt during the production of this post, there're plenty more where they came from

Happen to be the rear wheel arch where the antenna is?

If it is, then it could be that they maybe made a short there or whatever, which affects the radio in weird ways.

Or did they weld anything? That can also affect electric stuff.
Sure you can live without 500hp, but it\'s languishing.

Yes, if it is certainly worth checking the wiring runs from the aerial into the car, will need to take the bin out though.

Erm I alway have to turn mine on using the radio buton (or the CD button)  I don't have an 'on' button  s:oops:  s:oops:
There is a recall out at the moment which is to do with the wires behind the stereo rubbing and wearing through. You m,ight want to check them.

Cheers for the replies.

The repair was to the wing in the vicinity of the aerial......it actually switched on itself this morning when I turned the ignition and the same again later in the day. If I was to try and show someone the problem, it would probably make look a liar  s:oops:  s:oops:

I will see how it goes for a few days  and see if there is a pattern to it.

Now my stereo randomly switches off on ocassion  s:? :? s:?

Even more worrying...I was in the car park today and turned off the ignition (but ket still in, so stereo would work)...it then started randomly switching on and off...and the aerial was going up and down  s:scared: :scared: s:scared:

I just know if I went to the garage it would work ok

Unless of course, someone has an idea what it could be?

Did you check the wiring like SimonC suggested?

Driving home from work today...it went on and off many times!

I even waited until it was on and then pressed the On/Off button to switch it off (because it was annoying).....within about 20 secs, it switched back on  s:? :? s:?

I phoned the garage that did the repair to ask if they disconnected the aerial or anything....the guy said they wouldn't have disconnected it, but they will have loosened it and lowered it to mask off the area (perhaps the movement has affected the wires). He said i could pop in anytime and he would take a look at the connections.

Not sure how easy a job it is to do this myself?

Is there a wiring schematic for these systems available? I would be interested to understand how it all works and see if a loose connection at the aerial could cause such a problem.

Thanks

Still no luck getting to the bottom of the problem.

I have now found that on a few occasions, with the engine still running, I have switched off my headlights and the stereo has switched off too  s:shock:  s:shock:

Could it be an earth fault causing this erratic problem?

It doesn't make sense???
