Thinking of getting one of these to replace the article pictured below

Any tips on speakers?  I don't want to go down the route of underwater dogs in the rear bins   s:D :D s:D   or anything like that.  Just looking for a good set of speakers to replace the existing.  Am I likely to get a better sound than the stock items just by making these changes?

That has to be better than the stock " Fisher Price" unit.
Some half decent components and some sound deaddening in the doors and you'll notice quite a bit of difference.
There is a ton of info on what people have used in the electrical section. Have a read and search for speakers that have been used before.

Bit of a novice when it comes to HiFi.  Infinity speakers come well recommended, if expensive.  Been reading around the subject but there seems like most things in life to be too much choice   s:D :D s:D

Impedance?  If the unit says 4ohms does that mean the speakers have to be 4 ohms too cos I have found 2ohm and 8ohm units on sale?

6.5" speakers?  Why do they also say 16.5cm and 17cm?  Last time I looked inches and cms didn't vary by anything else other than a constant   s:? :? s:?    Which size fits as a direct replacement for stock units?

Sorry for all the questions, I have searched and read loads of the threads but was looking for some more basic info first.

Well as to size, I'm sure you've seen that the best spacers are home made and in MDF, so 165 or 170mm should fit. You just size the spacers to fit your speakers. Have a look on the spec for the head unit, that will tell you what impedance is acceptable. The ones in my 2 are 4 ohm, but in my other car I run Infinitys and they are 2 ohm and function okay.
Infinity speakers are a sensible choice, but any good components will be fine. Have a listen to some and see what suits your ear and pocket really. Types used and recommended by others include Rainbow, Focal, Alpine X series and S series, Infinity and there are others too.

Thanks for that.  I have just found reference on the Infinity website to their 2 ohm range being perfectly acceptable for most head units running 4ohms.  Something to do with losses and heat and wire gauge and loads of other things that left me way behind in their exhaust smoke.

Have ordered the HU and will probably fit it with the stock speakers first just to see how much difference that makes.  If as I suspect from reading everything here it is still pants then I will probably go for the Kappa 65.7cs which seem to be coming down in price.

Just the leads to source or make now.  Got an MR2 to ISO here but now need an ISO to Sony   s:roll:  s:roll:

Wouldn't want to make life easy would they?

Well it's in the car and it plays the iPod, USB stick, MP3 disks et al.  Can't fault it except that it's blue instead of amber but never mind!

Surprisingly the sound is not that bad either through the stock speakers.  Think they will have to go though eventually.
