Some complete cunt (sorry if this word offends but Im too pissed to be polite) has ripped my softtop and helped themselves to my head unit, amplifier, sub and custom box that I built. So pissed off words cant begin to describe.

Most bothered about the soft top. Will try to repair it I guess. Its a 9 inch gash right in the middle. Doesnt seem worth ruining my excess for, but then I dont think I want another stereo now in case that gets stolen as well.

I hope whoever done it dies of AIDs.

Thats really bad luck Andy. Especially with Christmas. Had the same thing happen to me years ago when I had an escort cabriolet. Bstards usually hear the sound system more in a softop and its more of a target as its easier to get into. Since then, I've not bothered with a soundsystem. Back then the hood for the escort cost about 500 but I think you will probably be looking for double that at least for a new one on the '2, but I hope not.

Lets just hope that their heroin dealer is not working over the festive period so they can have piccalilli with their cold turkey.

Thanks all. Thanks for the Halfords kit idea. Unfortunately, its only suitable for up to 5cm applications so wont do my 9 inch gash.

Think im just going to patch it up, paint the kit ive been fitting and sell it now. i will only be worrying about it otherwise and ive lost faith in it now. gutted really as ive spent quite a bit of time getting it looking good enough to paint next month.

The morons who carry out this sort of mindless thing are beneath contempt. I have every sympathy for you matey, and I join in the hope that something very nasty befalls them. You might get a repair done to hold it for now, but long term, I'm sorry to say is a new soft top. Sometimes these come up on ebay, but they are more than a challenge to fit, but needs must and all that. Good luck with fixing it, I hope you get the bits easily to replace it.

I share your extreme frustration for some of the free-loading scum out there who like to make everybody elses life a misery, but i was told along time ago that you shouldn't wish anything on anybody that you wouldn't wish on yourself.
I just felt that that was a little harsh for an open forum.

I would hate for anything to happen to my car so i hope that you get all sorted as soon as possible with minimum cost and upset on your car.

I disagree. Not wish something on them i wouldnt wish on myself? Stuff that. I still hope they die of something disgustingly unpleasant, even in the cold light of a more sobering mood.

Will just get it repaired/patched up, then get the car painted and sold. Pretty gutted as I was looking forward to keeping this, but cant justify £600+ on a hardtop or the worry of putting something else in and wondering what will happen to it.

Pretty sure you could get a hard top for around £300 and you could have expensive audio gear stolen from any car.

p.s. do you double press your alarm to dead lock?

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, had it done - its gutting.

I hope that you have reported it - your car has been fingerprinted etc?  Don't dismiss this, my old Orion was broken into many years ago and it was fingerprinted and the culprit caught, house searched found full of stolen gear and was put away at her Majs pleasure.

Ta, liz. yes, called the police and provided them with as much information as I could. They didnt offer fingerprinting, though. Will mention it next time they call, thank you.

I asked if the Police would like to fingerprint my Renault when someone screwdrivered the door lock out and climbed through it to pinch the stereo and CD changer.

Their response? "No point, and no we won't be coming out to look at it, here's your crime reference number, bye!"

After that I considered not bothering reporting it when the Nissan had the window put through and the stereo stolen (along with half the dash!) - but I had no choice that time.. I was alerted to it when I found the Police at my front door asking if "G ... ..." was my car - I've never been so worried I'd done something wrong in my life!

I'm very sorry ... this has happened to me, but luckily enough i fixed alone the softop.  I used to have 3 cuts.

Anyway here are some questions:
1. Did your have have alarm ?
2. Did your audio equiment is visible or was hidden in the storage bins etc?

You have my sumpathies and suggestion to try to fix it yourself. Just buy a big vinyl, cut to the correct dimensions and apply it over your old top.

I have farted louder than the standard alarm but if they opened your car from the roof i'm guessing you didnt deadlock,i believe if you double press the alarm it deadlocks.

I am sorry to hear about your car........I know the feeling as it happened to me christmas 2005.

Hope you get it repaired and keep the car. It would be shame to see you parting with the car due to some scums!

Doesnt stop someone cutting a hole and unlocking the hood, then climbing in that way.

I'm surprised there isnt a way of locking the hood with a key to stop it being released.

You must be so annoyed i know i would be!
That's why i'm on the look out for a hardtop because there's some places I can't leave my car because of the soft top. It's usually the jealous ones who damage something you have worked hard for because they can't afford such things and don't work so hard!
Not fair really!

Really feel for you, very upsetting. I had my MGTF hood slashed 18 months ago in a service station of all places, although it went through insurance, it still cost me £250 excess. After the hood got replaced i Part exchanged it for the MR2.

Sadly some selfish envious prats don't consider some people have saved up for there sports car and worked hard to earn one.
As the saying goes...what goes around comes around! whoever did that to your car WILL get their comupance.

Wonder why your alarm did'nt sound loud ...even when i wash my hood too hard the alarm goes off and makes a hell of racket.

Thanks everyone.

For info, I found a great fella in Maidstone who, despite it being an 8 inch slash, has managed to repair the hood thus saving me a fortune! Its left a kinda scar, but my brief to him was 'just make it waterproof again please!'.

He has patched it from the inside then filled it with a kind of polyurethane and I think it looks neat enough. Will at least make it more sellable than with a huge hole in the roof!
