Does this seem right??

My Wife's Insurance renewal came through this Morning & is £480.90 (Her car, CRV not the '2). So being the tight fisted so & so that I am I decided to get some quotes tonight (Same cover, excess etc). Here's the results:

Admiral - £381
Elephant (Part of Admiral judging by the EXACT same format of the site) - £382
Diamond - £480.90 (Underwritten by Admiral & DEDICATED to CAREFUL Woman Drivers(Full NCB, no points claims etc))

How does that work?? Two of their companies are more or less the same yet her existing Co wants an extra £100, is this just hoping that you won't get anymore quotes?

A similar thing happened with mine last month - needless to say I changed insurance after 7 years with Direct Line.

Roadblade,

I would recommend you ring Diamond and explain to them that you realise they are part of the same group and will they price match your Admiral quote  s:?: :?: s:?:    It costs a lot more for them to set up new policies so there's every chance they'll do it.

Alternatively - have you got a quote as if you were a new customer from Diamond  s:?: :?: s:?:    They would definitely match that if it's cheaper   s:lol:  s:lol:    s:lol:  s:lol:    s:lol:  s:lol:

Thanks, I will give that a try - they have always been really good in the past.

You may well find (most definitely) that its a new customer discount.

I have had the same argument with Direct Line about house & car insurance.  They doubled my house insurance from £250 - £470 (no claims), they said I had a 25% discount as a first year (sums - 250 +25% doesnt = 470).

Trouble is they dont tell you this, and when you even get a quote from their own website they say and I quote "we dont expect our customers to get new quotes", wonder why!

Anyway this week I have dumped their home insurance (aa where only £220), and dumped one load of car insurance (sold the car) will be dumping the second car insurance to go to Toyota.  So for their down right shittyness they are losing nearly £2000 from me a year!

I get the same thing every year with performance direct. I end up phoning round a few others. Adrian Flux usually beats my renewal quote by up to £100. I phone performance direct back, tell them that I've been quoted lower and miraculously they find a quote £8 cheaper than my lowest. It's happened for at least the last four years.

So, I finally got round to phoning them about the quote & they can only reduce it to £415! SO why didn't they quote that in the first place  s:x :x s:x

Looks like she is moving Ins Co's this year  s:!: :!: s:!:
