also can i wire up the components with the standard wiring i know you can with the main speakers but does the mr2 have components as standard?

The speakers will come with a crossover. You will prob find your headunit isn't powerful enough to run them. So a new amp to power them might be in order? Plus don't forget to sound proof the door it will make a huge difference!!  s:) :) s:)

i have a pioneer avh p4000 head unit this will be ok i would have though, when i mount the speaker and the component can i use the existing wiring to conect the 2 speakers? how does the cross over conect?

It will power them and you can use existing wiring. But... if you are going to spend over £200 on speakers, you have to amp them imo, otherwise you might as well spend £50. You won't hear much difference in comparison with any other swap because of the headunit's power.

We're talking about giving speakers which need 80W to sound great about 14W RMS from the headunit... No point spending that much without an amp.

I agree, because the speakers need more power than your headunit can give to run they will be wasted without an amp! Possibly sound worse than standard if really under powered?! Why not ask the dealer your getting the speakers from which amp they would advise to power them?
Focals sound crisp when running off a nice amp!   s:) :) s:)

recomended a underseat amp/sub this is another £200 will this be ok?

m312

What is it?

From what I understand there aren't many amps/subs which fit under the MR2 seats, not much depth there. Not the easiest car to add a decent sound system to!
