Would like to add in extra oil temp and pressure gauges (am a sucker for dials and switches)
any hints or tips?
mechanical seems to be more accurate than electrical but thats about as much as i have found out   s:oops:  s:oops:

Personally I would go with Electrical over Mechanical. Never been that keen on having on oil feed going to the back of the gauges in case the tube splits and I get oil leakage  s:shock:  s:shock:

Not done any on the '2, just on my old set of wheels.

Mechanical oil gauges are a pain to install. In fact, still haven't got around to fixing up the temperature gauge as the sump will have to come off to fit the boss for the probe. The oil pressure is at least properly bled now and is responsive. Seeing as I had the boost gauge in there, it was nice to keep the other mechanical too as the sweep area is the same, otherwise I'd recommend just sticking with electric.

Do remember that oil pressure goes up to 6bar, so make sure all your connections are suitable and secure. My pressure feed is taken off a tee where the existing electronic sender unit is placed - seemed the obvious place to take it, though there isn't much leeway in the electic cabling.

If you go electronic, and can put up with the look, I'd recommend SPA guages.. (http://www.spa-uk.co.uk/design/dualgauges.htm).

They're not cheap, but cheaper than most of the Japanese guages, extremely accurate (at least, the boost guage I tested opposite a decent make of mechanical guage was), and look cool (well, I think so). Oh and do two jobs at once..

need to do mmore research but aiming to co-ordinate the new gauge faces with the main faces - theres some posts on sc about printing new faces on acetate.
theres a copy of the scanned image of the main dail that can be used to take to the print shop.
will let you know how i go when i eventually get to it

As well as the SPA gauges, have a look at the DEFI gauges. Not cheap, but (I believe) are quite accurate and have replay features.

Yep - Defi come recommended too.. I've used GReddy guages (2x EGT) in the past as well, very nice with a nifty little control unit for replay & peak hold.

If you ever intend to add Greddy Piggy back and Profec, the profec has extra inputs to be used in place of other guages thus keeping the cockpit tidy.

I have my Profec displaying any of the following. 3 sets of data at one time.

Engine Temp
Air Flow
Air Temp
Injector Duty
Air Fuel Ratio
Oil Temp
Oil Pressure
RPM
Boost

etc the list goes on endless possibilities.   s:wink:  s:wink:
