There is an alarm on the car.
It depends how many times you press the lock button.
1 press  = doors  locked
2 presses = alarm is on
3 presses = interior motion sensors off but still armed.
[strike]2001 Silver MR2, red interior. Just like she came out of the factory \":)\"[/strike] -  I loved owning her !
Gone over to the dark side - 05 Black Z4 2.0i se with red leather.

The sounder is located underneath the spare wheel and so its noise is dampened down.
An easy mod is to move the sounder to a different location under the bonnet

Nearly right
1 press  = doors  locked and Alarm is on
2 presses = doors dead locked and alarm is on
3 presses = doors dead locked and alarm is on but interior motion sensors off

If no sound at all, the sounder which is as Danny said under the pare wheel may be damaged, unplugged or even missing.

i have tryed everything to set it off and i just get the side repeaters going wild with no sound . the sounder is intact and looks like its in good condition . could it be a fuse?

also i hear there is something to do with the alarm behind the driver seat . ??

The thing behind the seat is for adjusting the sensitivity of the alarm, but your sensors seem to be working ok. I reckon you'll have to have a ferret around and maybe take out the spare wheel plastics. Possibly a previous owner disconnected the alarm if it kept going off or something. Hopefully they just pulled the wiring loom plug apart.

Could be a grey import Euro MR2 - they didn't get an alarm as standard.

any way i can tell steve ? none of the papers say anything .

didnt you say that the sounder was there and looked ok, surely that means your car has the alarm fitted.

The alarm and siren are the same unit under the space saver in the frunk.
It's great for thinking someones car alarm is going off in the next street and then noticing your indicators are flashing   s:lol:  s:lol:

It's a nice job to take it out and fit it on the outside of the frunk under the main plastics, and boy is it loud once it has air to breath in.   s:scared: :scared: s:scared:
Cute & fluffy animals were definitely hurt during the production of this post, there're plenty more where they came from

try unpluging it and cleaning the contacts just in case, unfortunatly with the indicators flashing but no sound says to me rhat the alarm is actually working but the sounder part isnt so if its not dirty contacts then more than likely a faulty unit, my next move would be to see if another member near you is willing to let you try their sounder on yours, (10 min job) and see if that sorts it then just source a replacement.

Thinking about it if the sounder and alarm unit are all in the one unit as Nick says then you would probably have to use their key to set it, does anyone know if there are any problems with just swapping the unit out or not. has anyone done it.
