Ive invested in a HID kit , BUT the battery is at the back , so I'm assuming that I'll have to trail the wire the whole way through the car ?? Now I know you guys are VERY against this , but I've already invested in some night breakers + and to be honest there good but not bright enough ... So if you guys know of anyway of getting around my issue please let me know

BTW I've used spyder search , not had any luck on guides ??? Please let me know ,even If your anti hids ....

Sorry no idea

Absolutely against this, especially after being blinded by loads of cars yesterday with these things. Get some facelift headlights and uprated bulbs, that will do the trick and you'll pass MOTs.

I know - why dont you put the hids at the back of the car, then the poor  sbastard bastard sbastard  behind you will get blinded. At least they will have a chance of avoiding you/the ditch/armco barrier unlike the poor sod who meets you coming round a corner on a country road at night with them fitted to the front.  s:evil:  s:evil:  (Oh - and you will also be able to see the trail of destruction left in your wake nice and clearly in your rear-view mirror)

HID's ARE ILLEGAL TO RETROFIT TO OUR CARS - THERE ARE NO SUITABLY e-MARKED HEADLAMP UNITS AVAILABLE

Seriously, if you cannot see well enough at night using the standard headlights then you should be going to see an optician / doctor 'cause there is clearly something wrong with you.

nathanMR2

I ran a power source from the back to the front. It can be done but its a lot of work for one cable.

This shouldnt be something you should need to ask if you considering working on the car like this. Its a lot of work but pretty simple stuff.

I upgraded to facelift front lights and they are 100% better with the projectors. I can see the appeal with HID's but even if they werent such a no no i wouldnt bother fitting them with how good the projectors and a decent set of bulbs are. The only downside is they are not white white which i assume is the main reason people want to go down the HID route.

Its up to you want you do with your car but i really dont see HID's are needed with another option out there which should be illegal and not  spiss piss spiss  people off. No doubt you'll be able to sell your pre facelift lights to make some money back agains the cost too.

Jesus guys, never ment to  spiss piss spiss  people off, all I was asking for were some tips, never the less I shant ask again about them

HIDs don't really go down well on the forum but I can offer another vote for facelifts. I was surprised at just how much better they were especially down country lanes etc than the old prefacelifts. I don't actually have uprated bulbs in mine yet either!!

I think SpyderChat/Web may be a better place to find a write up / info though. Not sure how helpful I've been...

I do appreciate the people on this topic who have helped  s:) :) s:)  ! But not the spiteful get a dig in when they can , as theres no need ... But Amer and others on here thank you for your advice I shall check spyder chat out ...

The biggest problem you have is the MOT, it will fail in the future / and probably now due to not having a wash system and self levelling light, take a look at this thread  l viewtopic.php?f=9&t=35907&hilit=mot+changes l

Suggest you have a go in a later model car so you can see the benefit of the projector light, I do find that the lights in the my car a pretty good and my vision it not always that good.

Goog luck with your quest.

I understand what everyone is saying here and I think the main reason is because the mr2 is such a low car that any other car with a HID kit will blind us as there lights are at eye level with us, there are even taxis up near me with huge stickers on the side offering a hid fitting service lol. Now I'm going to openly admit here, I have a hid kit on the main beam of my roadster, there are a whole lot of country lanes near me without lights and I find using them for main bean is a lot better. I do have facelift lights and agree that the standard dipped beam on them is fine though.

educate me...why HIDs?

Wabbitkilla

You knew people were going to dislike the question you asked, so you asked it and proved your original premis. Some people will be less sensitive in their responses than others. I'm sure if you asked a question regarding doing something that is legal then any and all of the guys would be just as enthusiastic to offer help and advice.

It is actually not so difficult to run main power from the batter to the front if the car. If you look down the bulkhead behind the battery you will see a gromet where the engine loom enters under the lugguge bins. You will need to remove the passenger side bin to reach it. The sill plastics unclip to show the wiring runs and there are gromets behind the dash for entry into the frunk.

You just need to get a phillips head screwdriver and go exploring your cars underwear.

For the record I don't condone or support fitting HIDs, they are a curse upon the roads ... Evem the legal ones because we sit lower than the average box drivers we are more prone to being blinded by these devils testicles of the road.

Exactly, with all the legal issues alone just not worth the hassle.

Can thoroughly recommend a legal alternative

I know we talk about all things legal and illegal etc which I completely support through and through. A decent club like this can in no way enforce any kind of illegal activity, but as far as bulbs and HID kits go, could we not just give the guy the advice he's asking for? Or could this question perhaps not have been worded as something like " I like going to car shows on private land  but would like my lights to stand out whilst I'm there, can you tell me how to fit a HID kit"? That way your not admitting to using it on public roads, which is illegal, but off road where it's fine. It's kind of made me giggle a bit really because 99% of the people on here will have beefed up their engines, with cams, remaps, induction mods, engine conversions, turbos etc etc and I am one of these people, but why? You can only do 70mph on public roads so why do you need more power, sure there is no law stating you can't accelerate to that speed as fast as you like, but it may be considered as dangerous driving if you do which again is illegal. So I don't believe for 1 second that anyone on here doesn't "use their extra power willingly" if you get me. So not to seem like I have more faces than the town hall clock but I 100% agree the club needs to maintain a clean cut and law obiding place to be, but also this is a forum, we're not actually fitting these bulbs and kits for the people we're just giving them advise how to which isn't illegal. There are sites out there that give you advise on how to commit suicide for crying out loud, or grow marijuana but it's only information it's not actually doing it. Anyways that's my 2p worth, apologies if I have upset or offended anyone, I sincerely don't mean it.

I can see this thread going downhill quickly discussing the morality of this and that,HID's are illegal on the MR2 and highly annoying...fact! If the mods can see this thread going where I can see it going then they would lock this now.  s:roll:  s:roll:

[MOD]I think we have established the legality of HIDs o the car,  don't see there''s any point in beating up the OP over it and some constructive advice has been supplied. Considering the direction this thread is taking it is now locked [/MOD]
