I'm planning on a change of Head unit and was thinking of Digital Radio but...
Are there any good ones currently on the market? Is the technology that good at the moment as many head units ive seen reviewed don't seem all that impressive.
Im aware the aerial used and where its installed will make a massive difference, perhaps some of the reviews ive read have been left by people who have not sorted out the aerial correctly and so have left poor reviews, blaming the quality of the headunits over their own poor install?
 Any suggestions /ideas/opinions gratefully received   s:) :) s:)

I have a little honda del sol as well as the mr2 for popping around in, its got a pretty cheap sony cd player in it, I bought one of those ebay cheapy digital aerials from China for about £5 delivered, it has some sort of little box of gubbins about the size of a match box which I presume maybe converts the signal to digital? thebn your normal aerial fitting to the back of th headunit, the aerial itself is just like a strip that sticks to ur windscreen wit a little red LED on it which is hardly noticable, signal is very much improved over standard, lets just see if it is actually digital once the switchover happens or whatever. but for £5 I dont care and its certainly boosted the signal over the standard one  s:) :) s:)

It sounds a nice idea but dont confuse Digital radio with Digital TV.

If you are already in a poor DAB area, nothing is going to change. If you drive many miles, a DAB signal will drop out.

IMOH I think DAB radio has a limited life span, internet radio is where the future is, I think it will soon take over the home market from DAB.
If it was me I would fit something like the JVC KD-X50BT, its cheap, it has bluetooth, usb input, multi coloured display so you can match the cars illumination, iPod/iPhone control, its a mech-less system so has no CD player (i've never used mine in 4yrs!).
I'm making assumptions you have a smartphone but I would get an internet radio app for my phone and stream the audio to the head unit? Obviously it depends on how much you listen to the radio and relies on a decent mobile data signal although it is only audio your streaming. Also a good/unlimited data plan might be required from your mobile operator?
That way you won't have to stick another arial on your car or to your windscreen (where else can you put one?). In fact you could remove the original one all together, but then your into filling and re spraying the rear wing   s:lol:  s:lol:

I might have a try later with mine and see how it works?

It's got 2 USB slots though, although if like mine the bluetooth uses one of them. So a USB stick is always an option?
