fault code

hi all,

my engine management light is coming on at 2 miles in my 04 plate roadster.

the fault code is DTC 60125 and says something along the lines of insufficient water cooling temp at closed loop.

it's had a new genuine sensor fitted but still comes on with this code.
The local Toyota garage is stumped.

Has anyone else had this or have any ideas?

Think that's a P0125 which is listed as "Insufficient Coolant Temperature for Closed Loop Fuel Control" for all manufacturers.

The bad news is I have no idea what that means but someone on here will   s:lol: :lol: s:lol:

Who fitted what sensor?

Problems listed include

Insufficient warm up time
Low engine coolant level
Leaking or stuck open thermostat
Faulty coolant temperature sensor

The simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.

If the code comes back, the problem is likely going to be the result of the above causes (faulty thermostat, faulty ECT sensor, or a low coolant level).

the local Toyota garage fitted the new sensor, Im not sure what unit they use but assume its the correct one as they're a main Toyota dealer.

the code is as they said so again can only assume its right.

They said the print out was 7 pages long of stuff to check which they have done but still the light comes on after 2 miles.
They're proper scratching their heads now which is worrying, if the main dealer is stuck then where do you go.

Start with the obvious. What does your temp gauge say after a short while? Is it getting half way up the gauge within a reasonable time?

If it isn't then suspect a stat problem.

Check the coolant level in the header tank.

Can't believe Mr T won't have done this but in my experience they change things first and ask more obvious questions later sometimes!

I must admit I have noticed it takes about 6 miles before it gets to near running temp.

I'll speak to them today, they've turned round yesterday and are kinda stumped. There was talk of fitting a new ecu unit but have said it might not be that.
Pretty expensive elimination exercise I think.

The ECU's on these car are pretty much bomb proof.
There's an answer in the engine bay somewhere, tbh it takes about six miles for mine to warm up ... that's normal.

+1 for the 6 miles warm up - takes mine that time every morning - it's standard on my '04 plate.
Don't forget that many of Mr. T's mechanics will never have worked on a Roadster - and even if they have it will only be the odd one, so don't expect them to be experts!

thanks everyone, I spoke to the garage yesterday and discussed all your suggestions.
They've had it a week now so hopefully we'll see some progress soon, god alone knows what the bill is up to so far.

hi everybody,

i need some help as a i bought my mr2 mk3 yr2001 2 weeks ago and i had yo buy a catalytic converter for it as the previous owner installed an universal backbox and lost the cat conv. So i just bought my new one with an o2 sensor and i cant find where to connect it? Does anyone know where can i connect it?  My mr2 is japan import so im not sure it has any connections or not? The Japanese version of the car doesn't have a sensor after the catalyst ... hence you can't fin a connector   s:wink: :wink: s:wink:  

Your choice is just to ties up the wire from the sensor somewhere safe, or take it out and fit a bung to the port.

had a new stat fitted and the ecu re mapped and so far it seems to have done the trick.

They remapped it. Didn't think you could remap the stock ecu
