So in preperation for summer ive started work on building a custom subwoofer enclosure for behind the seats which replaces the bins. The enclosure will house 2 x inifinty 10" subwoofers in an enclosed box in the centre, then a set of 6 x 9's mounted one on each side,

I have an infinity amplifier mounted and powered up already behind the passenger seat.

I am wanting to run the 6x9's from the headunit and power the 2 subs from the amplifier, unless anyone can suggest otherwise?

my question as a newbie to audio is... what wires do I need>? I have looked on the bay at amplifier wiring kits and things but with me having 2 subs I wasnt sure how to play it? im guessing im going to have to power the 6x9's with a lead from the headunit? but how do I link the subs together and to the amp?

any suggestions or links to what I would need are appreciated.

Many Thanks

Got any more details on the amp ie 2 channel 4 channel etc. Also how many outputs has your headunit has got. As for the 6x9 can be run off the rear channels from the headunit.

Yes it's a 4 channel amp, approx 1800w I believe. The head unit is a JVC double din and has loads of outputs including sub out etc. does that help?

Ok so what you need to do is run some speaker cable from the rear speaker outputs on the head unit to the 6 x 9's. For subs run a phono lead from the sub output on the unit to the left input (white) of channels 1 and 2 and the right input (red) of channels 3 and 4. Then you want to wire one sub on a bridge system of channels 1 and 2 (ie one lead to the postive of channel one and the other lead to the negative of Channel 2.) do the same again with the other sub on channels 3 and 4 and it should be good to go.

Brilliant! sounds good. do you think its worth getting all the leads seperatly or would an average wiring kit do the job?

Should be good for one full wiring kit if you needing to wire the amp power in. Also I recommend the vibe wire kit as it seems to perform better and last longer.

Id really consider amping your 6 x 9's too if your going down that route. Given the money you've spent on your car and you'll get a lot better sound from them

Nathan is right but it an extra cost as the subs will need the extra power from the bridge system. For me I would still go down the current route and see how it sounds as a good headunit can produce some good sound from an updated speaker. As for the wiring it will be spot on for what you want.

Brilliant, thanks for that, I think I will order the wiring, get it set up as you said rbuckingham and see what it's like, as it stands the enclosure I have built have the 2 subs enclosed and the 6x9's on each side are free air if that's the right terminology? So if I did amp the 6x9's would I need a second amp?

Well on an 1800w over 4 channels will be around 450w, bridged around 900w. Now depending on the sub power you could have the 6 x 9 's on 2 of the channels and 2 channels to the subs. Now the 6 x 9's will be fine on that power however if you got powerful subs you will not get the full punch from them. Try bridging and if your not happy im more than happy to give you some instructions for making your amp run all the speakers.
