Have a face lift two and I've been following this guide - http://www.mr2roc.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=12583 on how to remove the standard fisher price. I've removed the pillar covers and heater cover and now I'm stuck, I can't figure out how to get to stereo out, theres four screws but I can't get to them as the stereo is blocking them. Do I need to remove the stereo surround to reach the screws? If so, how do I do it without breaking the surround?

Really appreciate any help guys, I know I've been asking a lot of questions lately.

There seems to be two spacers/extensions on the side of the stereo housing ,as well that need to come off

Okay, this is what I'm looking at, as you can see there are two screws on the left side (also on the right) that hold the stereo in place, they are blocked by the stereo surround, so do I have to take this off first to get to them, if so how? If not, how do I get to them?

Yes that helps somewhat thank you, it says to remove the stereo and surround in one piece, but then how on earth do you get to the screws that are holding the stereo in place?

I think it might clip off, I mean it must for you to be able to access the screws, but how do I clip it off with out snapping it to bits, it seems to be stuck on pretty tight?

You need to stick a finger/thumb behind one side of the surround, prise is away from the HU slightly and pull (pretty hard) until that side comes off, then slide the other side off to prevent damaging the 2 clips at the top... it is held on by 3 clips each side but it will come off. Then you can easily get to all 4 screws.

Then put it on your new HU, it goes on a lot easier than it comes off!

YES! Thank you so much, that worked. However, the fitting kit I bought doesn't seem to fit, I have this one http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/autoleads-fp1103-toyota-mr2-roadster-previa-rav-facia-panel-adaptor-p-9511.html. Is that the one you used? Am I being an idiot or does it genuinely not fit, I have an 04 facelift if that makes a difference.

What part of it doesn't fit, can you put up a pic? Are there are a load of tabs marked with letters and you need to remove all but leave the letter to fit the '2? Mine was one from eBay but it pretty much the same as that one, was quite a tight squeeze though. It definitely should fit. Facelift won't make a difference, the size of the radio space is the same (my old car and my facelift both had the exact same single din converter in them).

Hi Stu, I really appreciate your help by the way. I can't take a photo as I'm at work, but I've managed to find images to explain the problem so bare with me.

This is the kit I bought http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/toyota-mr2-roadster-rav4-car-stereo-fitting-kit-fascia-wiring-p-9763.html

This is what came http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOYOTA-MR2-Spyder-2000-Car-CD-Stereo-Fascia-Surround-Panel-Adaptor-CT24TY24-/251004980822?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a71100e56#ht_2254wt_1378

I don't know if they're the same kit or not? But anyway this is the problem:

Yes there where a load of tabs which I cut off leaving only the correct ones (tab c I think), the problem is that the section of the clip (the thing with the tabs) that actually attaches to the facia is is wider than the original stereo and doesn't seem to fit in to the exhausting hole as the pillars get wider where the screw holes are, and as this section of the facia sits inside the narrower bit, it won't fit. I've pointed to these sections in the images below.

Yeah that's exactly the same as I've got. So the parts with the tabs cut off clip to the side of the main unit. Mine did rub slightly against the part where it widens but I just held it steady in place and put the screws in.

I'll try to see if I've got any pics from when I did the install when I get home but not sure if I have.

Ah sweet that would be great!

Sorry but I only have the following pics; hopefully that at least explains how the bits go together so if yours looks like that then it should fit.

Remember not to put the facelift surround on until after you've put the screws back in as well  s:) :) s:)
