Few issues with 2001 MR2

Hi, I've recently purchased a 2001 silver MR2 of a member on here. It's in good condition and the engine sounds and feels excellent.

However there's a few issues which I've found with the car:

The electric ariel goes up and down fine although once it reaches the top the motor carries on spinning and does not stop. I've found a few posts which say to burn the end of the plastic track to fix the issue. Weirdly I was told the ariel has just been replaced and there is reciept for fitting.

The other bigger issue is the alarm appears to be missing? If you lock the car with the key fob but leave the window down I am able to reach in and open the door without the alarm going off. On the left side of the steering wheel, next to where the coin holder is there is blank plate with a hole in the centre of it, which I've read should be where the alarm led should be. Although there is a flashing red led in the center silver band of the heater controls that still works.

I've removed some of the carpet behind the drivers seat and there is nothing in the compartment under the bins where the alarm should be.

Has anyone got any ideas? I can't imagine why it would of been removed. Is the location different for the pre-facelift 2? Is there any more places I can check for the components of the alarm?

Thanks

When you open the car do the indicators flash? If so then it may be that your sounder has gone mute (like mine). The bit that makes the sound is under the spare wheel in the storage box. It is never going to be loud in that location but you should be able to hear it. By the way, if you lock with the remote and then press the lock button again within a couple of seconds you can 'dead lock' the doors giving a bit of extra security.

Thanks for the reply, my indicators flash when locking/unlocking the door but when trying to sound the alarm nothing happens and the indicators aren't flashing.

I'll have a look under the spare wheel tomorrow and see if the sounder is even there.
