MR-S remote central locking

Hi All,

I have trawled here and the internet at large but can not find what I am hoping to be a fairly simple answer.

I have just become the owner of an MR-S in place of my battered MR2 care of a recent run in with something bigger than me, however no remote central locking or alarm. This is no big problem but I would like to resolve it, so have bought a kit to get the remote locking sorted but am now stumped on which wires control this in the car.

From my aftermarket unit I have 2 cables that on its brilliant diagram on a piece of A5 it just says "connect to central locking circuit".

My assumption is that there will be 2 similar wires running from the key lock to the... ECU??? which currently do this command when I twist the key, soooo if I tap into those wires with my unit I can then send the command to lock or unlock from my remote unit and the key. I am not talking about cutting the existing connection, just joining to it.

The magic (a clicking noise) appears to happen in a black box up under the drivers side dash which has Toyota 89221-17010 on it. There are an array of colourful wires coming out of this but so far I can find no clue as to which wire does what.

Does anyone have a diagram saying what is what for wires out of that box?

Or has anyone already done this and have any tips on where to break into the circuit.

Thanks

What does the key fob look like ? ive got an early MR-S and it has factory remote central locking ,but no alarm /immobiliser ,
i was under the impression they were all the same

The keys are very retro, no buttons on them at all. Looking around this is to be expected so that's no real issue.

The kit I have bought to achieve remote locking also has an alarm part, but I didn't want to cloud the waters with that aspect of it as I am only interested in the circuit that sends the signals to each door to lock and unlock in unison.

I have noted some people have spoken about retro fitting UK spec alarms etc... which could be something for the future, but right now this should be a cheap fix.

You're correct, they all have central locking as standard.

My old import didn't come with a button key, so just bought a new key from CTP for £90 and programmed it to my car.

ah ok that's interesting, however is that not going to cost me the best part of £100 for a key plus whatever Toyota want to link it up seeing as I don't have a key to start the ball rolling as I have seen in other threads?

Also this kit I bought will let me (well my brother in law) adapt the key blade to fit the flip key fob it came with, so no more holes in my pockets  s:) :) s:)

From memory and a rather ropy picture I took that diagram might just be the answer I need.

I will have to wait until after work tomorrow but I will let you know how I get on and take some pics as I go to help anyone else in the future.

Cheers

Bear in mind this is for the Spyder which is the US version ,so might  be slightly different

You can just get the new key and programme it yourself in 5 minutes (CTP gave me a 1 page guide of how to do it), it's not like the UK car which requires you to have 1 original key to programme a new one.

A quick update, it turns out these cheap alarms from ebay have come a long way since I bought one for my Mini all those years ago, you can't just connect the bits you want to work up and ignore the rest. So many thanks to TrevsMR2 as those wiring diagrams were spot on (although backwards for the which is the main door). So far we have connected up the immobiliser and alarm parts and although the instructions are "basic" if you just do as your told and try not to argue with their logic it actually works very well!

Friday we will actually tackle the central locking part and I might even get brave enough to link in the wire which will wind up my windows up from the keyfob, which will be handy for when you have dropped the windows a bit for putting the hood back up and then cant be bothered to lean back in for the window switches... Lazy yes... but I may as well get my full £15 worth!

They are all different but I will try and post a blow by blow when I am done
